Hi Trish, yes I’m sad about reducing the number of roses too, but it’s not just the increasing heat and onerous watering, it’s creeping age and wanting to reduce garden maintenance. I’ve been putting off downsizing for some time as well, but it’s going to come and a more easy care garden would be an easier sell, or so I’m told. I am not planning for any new roses, so thanks for your suggestions, maybe for the next garden, although I have never seen the Brindabella range here.

There was a large yellow Phlomis in my East garden when I moved here so I know it should do well, but I hoiked it out because it didn’t fit with my planned colour scheme then. There is a lot of the sage leaf cistus growing wild around here, but not something one ever sees on sale, but yes that would be an excellent choice. It’s too cold in winter at my inland altitude for bougies to survive here, likewise oleander and other med staples.

Candlelight was a black spot nightmare here, but I’m glad it’s finally doing well for you. Sorry, I’m still really not sure about whether your Dolly’s Rose is Soul or not! I’ve probably posted these before, but Soul can be very variable in bloom form, this one looks similar to yours:

A little update from Beech Cottage! 🌹

Well, the operation has been and gone, and I'm pleased to report that I'm still here to tell the tale! Recovery is progressing nicely, although I'm discovering that I'm considerably less capable of doing things than I imagined. For the moment, gardening is strictly a spectator sport!

Meanwhile… 🙄

Look who's still wandering about, way past his bedtime!

Rosa ‘The Prince’, having apparently spent most of the summer in his dressing room, has finally decided to grace us with his presence.

10th October in Aberdeenshire!

Honestly, Your Highness! 😂🌹

Glad the op went well, Peter, but do take it easy, it will be a while before you are back to full strength.

Lady Em, Just Joey and Versigny still going here:

And ‘La Bourbannaise‘ aka The Startled Chicken is putting on a late spurt. The blooms appear a vibrant orange in reality, because one’s eye blends the red and yellow. I’ve still not decided on it’s final placement so it’s temporarily plonked in the Oranges and Lemons bed, which is currently undergoing rennovation:
