Here it is, years later, and here in Manitoba we are having a long frost-free fall. So I am continuing to pick Mr. Tung pole beans as they show up, a handful a day.
That is WONDERFUL! I lost my seed. Though I need another bean variety "like I need a hole in the head," I may look up seed someday and grow it out. I hear Aftermidnight is no longer with us. She was such a good friend and helpful, knowledgeable gardener.
Following the link I received in my email, about your post, immediately I saw her post about this bean being usable as a full bean. Makes me wonder if Mr. Tung's family didn't get their original seed from an Appalachian raised sailor.
I love those Appalachian type beans!
Blue_skink, thank you so much for the update! If ever you would like to drop over to Green Country Seed Savers' forum, I'm sure you'd receive a warm welcome.
