Our relationship with RJK began with our kitchen renovation project in 2010 and has continued through several more projects of various sizes over the years, with our most recent one a month ago. From the the first collaboration with RJK, we knew that it would be an ongoing relationship. Principles Rob and Suzanne were a pleasure to work with. As first time renovators, we were a little naive about budgets, timelines etc. Rob, Suzanne and the rest of the staff were wonderful about walking us through the process, helping us understand how it all worked, and in moments where we got in a little over our heads with the budget, they worked with us to make cost effective adjustments so we could be comfortable with the budget while still getting an amazing finished product.
The team on site was respectful and very careful to protect our space. They were very trustworthy. Most of the work was done during the day while we were working, but we never had any issues with the team being in our home unattended. They were also very communicative throughout the process. We got emails every night outlining the work that was done that day and a plan for the following day. Staff was responsive to questions and readily available. When we were 3/4 of the way through the kitchen project, we ran into a hold up because of an issue with the cabinets (from the cabinet company). We decided to use the time to take on another project with RJK - redoing the flooring, the fireplace hearth, and patio door in our basement - because we were so comfortable with the work they had done for us up to that point.
We ended up with a great kitchen, powder room, and basement renovation that nearly 3 years later we still enjoy tremendously and get compliments on all the time. We have since added a new master bathroom to the list of collaborations. But the best part of our relationship with RJK is that they have been an invaluable resource to us ever since. Whenever we have questions or need referrals for other jobs that we think would be too small for RJK, they either come through for us with their own staff or subcontractors, or connect us with someone else who can do the work for us. And we will be ever grateful that when we had a major water leak while my partner was deployed, leaving me alone to arrange for the extensive repairs and deal with the insurance company, they were right there to do the job and give me peace of mind.
We have recommended RJK to friends and colleagues. And as we think about the next house we will need to accommodate our growing family, we know that RJK will be our go-to designers and contractors for any work that needs to be done.
