About Us

Working closely with architects, our landscapes reflect the spirit of a home’s design and offer a unique interpretation of the terrain. We compose garden spaces that thrive throughout the year with beauty and grace, always considering a garden’s temporal flow, its adaptability to a client’s changing needs, and how these will affect our clients and the natural world. We vigilantly adhere to the guiding principle that a landscape should respond to its adjacent architecture and its social and natural histories. Our commitment to green design and our respect for the social and environmental impact of a site are primary considerations in our work. Enhancing the beauty of the natural world comes with a commitment to doing it with respect for the site’s history and native elements, minimizing negative impacts on the environment. We calculate our annual carbon footprint and offset our use of electricity and fossil fuels through TerraPass, whose programs help reduce greenhouse gases, support clean energy, and restore freshwater ecosystems. We are partnered with DBI Construction Consulting to provide estimating and appraisal services for the insurance market. We travel nationally from Puerto Rico to Hawaii, strengthening our expertise in tropical plants, storm resilience, resorts, and golf courses, continually enriching our fluency in high end hospitality. Horn & Co. is a Washington DC landscape architecture and horticultural firm specializing in the design and implementation of high-end residential and commercial gardens throughout Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, and New York state.

Core Outdoor Living

We built an Equinox Adjustable Louver Roof for a client of JHLA and worked closely with both Jennifer and Reuben throughout the process. Their level of planning and professionalism was impressive. They kept the client experience at the forefront and this resulted in a smooth construction process and outstanding final product. Kamm Architecture

We had a great experience working with Jennifer Horn Landscape Architecture. The firm provided landscape architecture for a new, modern home that we designed in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Jennifer immediately understood the concepts for the house and site. She developed a landscape vocabulary that provided all of the missing elements in the site design. The work is original, complements the design of the house, and contributes to a unified artistic expression on the site. We found Jennifer to be talented, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. In addition to her design acumen, Jennifer has a depth of knowledge and experience in plant materials and site planning/management. Her drawings were thorough and complete, and her work on site during construction was a critical part of the success of the project. Jennifer Horn Landscape Architecture has completed several projects for us over the past few years. They have provided garden design services for 2 houses and also designed an ipe deck with custom outdoor lighting. Each project has been completed on time and on budget. Jennifer is a joy to work with, and her passion for designing beautiful outdoor spaces is contagious. She is incredibly professional, responsive and approachable. She guided us through every step of the design and build process on all jobs, and we always felt comfortable that she knew exactly what she was doing. Jennifer worked with us extensively on designing our yard. She is very knowledgeable about plants and what works and doesn't work in a Northern Virginia climate. She helped us with plantings for our back and front yards - and then worked with us on more extensive projects involving the installation of a patio and outdoor fireplace and construction of a raised bed garden. She is very collaborative and pragmatic about budget considerations. She's also great about recommending contractors and getting bids for work being proposed. Every experience with Jennifer has been positive.

JHLA was extremely professional and knowledgeable. She completely transformed our landscaping. We moved into a house that had a horrible landscape design and Jennifer helped us transform everything. JHLA helped us save costs by reusing plants whenever possible. She also helped us create a beautiful plan that suited our lifestyle- we wanted vegetables and drought resistant plants. We get compliments on our landscaping constantly. I also learned a lot in the process.

I recently had the great opportunity to collaborate with Jennifer and our clients on a wonderful project in Bethesda. The work included the renovation of a ground-level kitchen and family room and the development of adjacent outdoor living space and gardens, including an outdoor kitchen designed by Jennifer and her team. The ease of flow and connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces was a key component of the scheme. Jennifer has a great collaborative spirit and knows her plants. Her work is beautiful!

Commented: From what source did you purchase the paving stone and there name?We specified thermal bluestone for the paving and Charles Luck Stillwater Stone Veneer. CL has since closed but I’m sure there’s similar products out there.
