After review of several contractors we settled on Reier Construction to do our extensive kitchen and family room remodel. Throughout the remodel process we were extremely pleased with their advise, budget review, attention to detail, the Reier crew, the subs, and with Tom Reier and his right hand manager and "get it done" person Lucy Wilson. Both Tom's and Lucy's follow up and immediate resolution of the few minor punch list items was just icing on the cake. We were always treated like we were their most important client. We whole heartedly recommend Reier construction and will always use them for any future projects.

We could not be more pleased with the outstanding work the Reier team did with our home. They truly made the vision of our dream home come to life. From day one, we knew after meeting both Tom and Lucy that we were in great hands. Their people skills and professionalism are unmatched. During the large projects we worked on with the Reier team over the past year, communication has always remained fluid and open. Any issues or concerns were addressed right away. Lucy is on top of organization and made the breakdown of the project easy to understand down to the tiniest of details. Tom's staff are all incredibly hard-working, kind and skilled at what they do. We always felt comfortable with them in our home. We strongly recommend their work!

We had Reier Construction plan and build a 300 sq foot addition to our single story home. Once we decided an addition was what we wanted, we needed to find a contractor. The first time I spoke with Tom Reier I had the feeling that he was our builder. He answered most all our questions in the first phone conversation . He also gave us an honest an accurate project timeline. Everything went perfectly from start to finish. The project was completed on time which is something because of the ever present Covid slow down. We highly recommend Reier Construction. We are very pleased with our project.

We had Reier Construction remodel our living room and open it up to our outdoor living space with huge sliding glass doors. We love it. The process was smooth and easy. The crew was very professional and took great care of our things during the construction. The project was done on time and the quality of the work is fantastic. We can't wait to have Tom do our next project.

We chose Reier Construction because a neighbor used them and came highly recommended, and they had very good reviews on this site. We are extremely disappointed in their management of our project, the numerous cost overruns, extremely poor communication, and the fact that not a single phase of the project was according to schedule. All the trades were subcontracted (electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, countertops, flooring, etc). All Reier personnel did was some demo and framing work. EVERYTHING else was done by a third party. Their cost estimating, communication, and project management was extremely poor. Our house was tore up for over five months and should have been completed in four months according to their “schedule”. We are extremely disappointed that we chose Reier and have learned a very costly lesson. Never again!

Comment from Reier Construction:
Jim,
I am disappointed you feel this way. During sheetrock, while I was out of town, our project manager did fall well short of expectations. Hence, after your project and coupled with other short comings, he was subsequently let go from our company.
Prior to that and upon my return we were all over your project with support.
And as I explained to you, your cost over runs where only due to your selections of product and changes you made.
And on your overages, at our last meeting I gave a majority of your overages at or below cost in hopes of satisfying you.
You stated you were not getting any communication from our project manager in reference to pricing, but at the same time, you never let anyone in our office or myself know this was not being communicated. I have no record of your request for pricing on any selections or changes that would have clued us into there being an issue.
I am glad to see you liked the design and quality of work built into your project. I would have been surprised if you had anything less than positive to say about my guys or sub-contractors. My guys did not only do all the demolition and framing, but also completed all of the finish work including numerous items, i.e. going up on your roof to fix an unrelated skylight leak, which we did not bill you.
In regards to use of sub-contractors, why would I not use subcontractors? General contractors are not allowed to do their own electrical or plumbing. Sheetrock and paint is much more affordable for my clients when I have specialized workers that do the same trade over and over every day. This is common in our industry on jobs of your size.
Your statement of "EVERYTHING else was done by a third party" speaks well to the fact this is a "one off" outlier example of our customer experience, as seen by our previous reviews.

We employed Reier Construction for some extensive renovations on our home. Those included kitchen, dining room, wood flooring, living room fireplace and built-ins, laundry room, powder room, master bath and master closet. We could NOT have been more pleased with the quality workmanship, professionalism of the entire crew and staff, great communication, high-end finishes, beautiful final results. Unlike what I have heard from others who used a different contractor, Reier's workers always arrived on time, worked diligently, were courteous and always cleaned up the work space before leaving for the day. The owner, Tom Reier, was the epitome of professionalism while always friendly and concerned with our satisfaction. Tom stopped by at least weekly to examine the work his crew had done, making sure every detail was done correctly. He also impressed our neighbors by meeting with them to alert them to the extra vehicles they would see while the project was under way. Anyone thinking of hiring a contractor could do no better than hiring Reier Construction!

Reier Construction put a two-story addition on our house, including a theatre, office, large closet, concrete patio, and bedroom extension.
I can't say enough good things about Reier Construction and I can't recommend them highly enough. Tom listened to our goals for the project and offered excellent suggestions which added real value for us. He also proved to be flexible when we wanted to change the plans before construction began. He was very communicative and did an excellent job of letting us know the status of the project along the way. Every time I had a question, Tom had an answer, a suggestion, and a smile.
We LOVE our house now!

Tom Reier and his crew have completed a full remodel of my home (condo) including: a new kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms with closets, new floors, ceiling and walls. They updated all plumbing pipes and electrical wiring. The Reier people also supervised the instillation of new windows and a new heating system. Really, this was a huge make over that took about 3 months.
I have worked with a great many contractors and construction people over the course of owing six homes throughout my life. I can honestly say that Tom Reier is the most competent, honest and fair workman I have ever dealt with. His bid was far more detailed than I have been accustomed to, and he had it for me within a week. The bid was competitive, but not the lowest I received. In my life, I have found that in big projects there is a lot more at stake than worrying about a few dollars! His bid included the services of the architect rendering. Also, a design specialist /decorator who accompanied me to select all the tiles, carpet, bathroom fixtures, appliances, light fixtures, trim work and paint colors. That was a really big help to me.
Tom touched base with me on a weekly basis and I always knew what was going on. I often stopped by my project unannounced and always found productive, respectful workmen in a well cared for and tidy environment. I had to call Tom a couple of times with small concerns (he gave me his personal cell number). If he was not available I left a message and he always called me back within 30 minutes, usually less, even on non-work days. Additionally, my neighbors were all sent a letter with information of how to contact Tom should they have noticed a problem or had a concern during my remodel. Tom did not missed any deadlines due to his planning ability and his constant supervision.
Tom and his office staff at Reier Construction (especially Carol) were effective and honest communicators and always available for my questions or clarifications. His work crews (especially Dave and Mark) are excellent people to deal with. They are highly skilled, hardworking, and have a respectful and cooperative attitude.
Reier Construction has my highest recommendation.

We used Reier Construction for a big remodeling job: main floor, main kitchen, moved a staircase, and had to redo the most of the bottom floor as well.
When you spend 5 months with a contractor and his crew in the house, you get to know them pretty well.
They were not good, but great.
1. Creative: we interviewed several contractors for the job. Tom Reier was the one who came up with "out of the box" solutions for our challenges. He is full of ideas, always.
2. Honest: they are running into a problem, you are the first to know. We dealt with Tom at all times. Options were always given, prices/risks/benefits were always discussed in a timely fashion.
3. Competent: his permanent crew ( especially Dave and Mark) is great. His subcontractors are just as good. You can tell he has been around for a while. He does not use poor subs.
4. Fair: the price is the price. He always explained cost, hours, mark-ups. I NEVER felt he was trying to rip me off or take advantage of a situation. Yes, we had nasty surprises when we opened the walls. That was not his doing. He helped us to figure out the best and most cost effective solutions.
5. His office staff, especially Carol, is awesome. Knows her stuff, she is organized, super nice, and keeps you informed at all times.
In conclusion, despite the fact that we had a long and complex project, that ended up costing much more than we planned ( because of hidden problems we inherited from the previous owner, including lack of permits, etc, etc) we had a wonderful working relationship with Reier Construction. We do consider them more friends than people you pay for a service. I would not work with anybody else while Tom is still around.
Leslie Jensen ( Signature Design) that designed the whole thing, is getting her separate review. She is also awesome , and that speaks to the quality of people Tom works with

We used Reier Construction to remodel the kitchen in our 1910 craftsman home. It has been five months since the work was complete and I can't figure out how I managed to function in the old one. From the moment I met the owner I knew we would hire them. You do your research and get recommendations but in the end you go with your gut. These are good people who do great work.
We started on time, finished on time (about six weeks) and came in just under budget. My priority for the project was high-quality work at a realistic cost. I work full time and didn't want to have to be a project manager. Turns out the only project I had to manage was my husband!
Tom and Carol at Reier did a great job managing expectations and communicating with us. The crew worked hard and were really nice people (Note: always be nice to the people working in your home! Sadly, they are usually surprised by it.)
The subcontractors were professional and highly skilled. Plumbing, electrical, cabinet installation, tile, flooring etc. I think you get what you pay for when it comes to the trades and it speaks volumes when they tell you how much they like working for your contractor.
I couldn't be happier with the work and there isn't a thing I would change in my new kitchen (how often do you get to say that?) The kitchen functions in the 21st century but respects our 105-year-old home. I would definitely recommend this company and would plan to use them for future projects.

We met Tom at the Tacoma Home Remodel Show. We scheduled an appointment to come out and look at our project on March 20, 2015. He told us he would have an estimate to us on the following Tuesday. He text my cell phone and stated he didn't get it done and he would get it to us as soon as possible. I understood he was busy and I was sure we would hear something by that Friday. Today is April 25th and we have never heard a word from Tom or his office staff. I am guessing our project was not worthy of his time. I hope he doesn't do this with all the clients who schedule an appointment and take time out of their day to wait for him to stop by.
