“We approached The House Architects as we wished to renovate our 1930's semi-detached in Sandymount. The house was cold and the back faced north and was notoriously dark and always chilly. It had had double glazing put in 30 years previously but the windows were ageing badly. There was also dampness coming on the north facing walls and the roof was not in great shape. We met up with Josh (John) initially and discussed what we wanted from the house - an extension at the back across the kitchen and dining room area that would be bright and allow easy access to the garden; a downstairs accessible bathroom; a warmer house; a better roof; new heating system, and redecoration. Through a couple of meetings, Josh, Vivienne and the team at The House Architects took all our ideas on board, and came back with a selection of innovative ideas and designs that perfectly fitted the brief. It included insulating the house, and a wonderful extension at the back that would flood the back of the house with light through large sliding/bifold windows, and roof windows. The House Architects made this process painless - it was refreshing to work with a professional team who interpreted our ideas into a terrific design with minimal distress. They made it clear that they wanted to provide us with the outcome that we wanted - which they did. The designs produced were 3D so we could see how the extension and development would look. The team then put the design out for tender with a number of builders, and arranged for us to meet with them in their central Dublin offices. Through The House Architects we decided on a builder who had worked with Josh and Vivienne previously, and who had read the brief in detail -so we knew that he would do a good job for us. Building work started soon after, and Josh and the builder had a chart outlining the timeline for the work, which was very accurate. We live abroad and the process was overseen by Josh through monthly site visits, and a WhatsApp group including ourselves and the builder. We were sent regular updates, and photographs, and the process was painless. On our visits to Dublin, Josh and his builder colleague would recommend different places we could go to source windows, tiles, kitchens, bathroom etc.. Josh, Vivienne and the team ensured that we were kept well informed throughout the process, and that the snagging list at the end of the process was dealt with in a professional and efficient manner. There were no unplanned financial surprises along the way - we knew what our financial outlay needed to be, based on the House Architects' assessment.
