“I happened upon A Well-Dressed Window while driving around the shopping outlet where it is located. I was met by the owner, Kathy, who was very friendly and easy to talk to. She inquired about what I was looking for as far as style and purpose for the blinds. Upon explaining what I was looking for she pointed me to various types and styles as she explained their features and benefits. She was very knowledgeable on each type and explained what each could do for me in the way of the specifics I was looking for. She offered to set up one of their free in-home consultations, but I was not quite ready and need to figure out which style I was looking for from the ones I was shown by her. I hope to work with her this summer! The only caveat I found with the encounter was that I was only given very vague price ranges, however, I am sure that a more clear estimate would be given at an in-home consultation and once a style could be narrowed down on.”

When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
Any fabric can be used, but generally the most common types of fabric used are cotton, silk, linen, polyester, and combinations of these due to their lighter weight and insulating properties.
