“This was my first ever time commissioning curtains in my first ever house, and I can absolutely say that Sonia Whiteman made the experience a pleasure. I knew nothing about fabrics, linings interlinings, pleats, returns... Sonia talked me through all the options. She measured not once, not twice, but three times, and held my hand through everything, including putting up poles, return hooks and hold-backs. I really can't recommend her highly enough, she is an extremely skilled and careful seamstress, and a lovely person to deal with.”

“Melissa Hutcheson's blinds have made the world of difference to my bedrooms: finally, no more street light seeping in at night! I have two very different sized windows in my master bedroom, but Melissa found a way to unite them with her blinds. I get so many compliments on the choice of fabric, too. Melissa made choosing entirely painless, by not drowning me in samples, and quickly understanding my tastes (despite the house being only partially furnished and undecorated at the time of her first visit). “Friendly and enthusiastic service in the shop by a lady called Sarah. She had an extensive knowledge on absolutely everything you'd want to know, spoken in a language you can fully understand. I wouldn't go anywhere else for blinds. Honest about prices and when fitted, the warmest man called Anthony sent around who worked efficiently and put a smile on our faces. Really pleased with our blinds and couldn't recommend Aspect any more!”

“Lifetime Guarantee, Professional and polite manner with a non pushy sales approach resulting in a high quality finish is just a few of the reasons I decided to work with Rob from Just Shutters. Having had a number of quotes I went with Rob from Just shutters as I found he provided more knowledge around the look and finish of the product but also discussed finer details down to the wood types and what would best suit my single pane windows due to condensation as i'd needed that durability which is something i'd not thought about. He arrived on the day as planned in the early morning and by late afternoon all the shutters were in with no disruption to my day and the look and feel of my property instantly changed, The look and finish when getting shutters completely overrides any blinds or curtains that I had previously thought of so If you're looking for shutters and what to change the look of your place then I would highly recommend Rob to come and discuss how he can help you.”

When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
Any fabric can be used, but generally the most common types of fabric used are cotton, silk, linen, polyester, and combinations of these due to their lighter weight and insulating properties.
