We are sustainable and passive house designers, committed to provide quality modern design which sits well in the original setting. We are a purpose driven, innovative, environmentally and socially conscious architectural practice. We believe architecture has the power to positively transform people’s lives and we constantly strive to find ways to help people live better. Our founding directors are partners in business, as well as life, and established GoKu to combine their dual passions of sustainability and cultural anthropology. This combination is what makes us different – we think beyond the building.
John J. O'Connell Architects is an RIAI accredited Conservation Practice, Grade I, founded in 1978. The practice is based in Dublin and has completed projects throughout Ireland, Europe and the United States. We are an award winning practice, working primarily on historic buildings, but also bespoke new buildings. From classical to modern, our inspiration is derived from a wide array of structures; from the traditional cottage to the grand country house, early industrial buildings to Georgian townhouses. We believe that each building contains messages that are valid for every generation. The emphasis of our practice is that we greatly admire the work of the Architects, builders and craftsmen who have gone before us, whilst also recognising that there is forever a movement forward in Architecture. Our vision is to sensitively approach each building, whilst ensuring that they remain useful and relevant today and for future generations. Since John J. O'Connell Architects began, we have been most fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on some remarkable buildings, large and small, which have been the work of the most thoughtful and energetic of minds. These buildings have served as a great inspiration for us. If you would like to discuss a potential project with John J. O'Connell Architects, please do not hesitate to contact us, as we will be more than happy to assist you with any queries you may have.

The important thing in choosing an architect is finding one who can listen to the client’s original idea, and be prepared to take trouble to understand their particular requirements and preferences. Your architect should be able to advise on the legalities, such as planning issues, and cope with the technicalities, such as Building Regulations. Most important is to identify opportunities offered by the site, overcome restrictions imposed by regulations or site conditions, and be able to develop and build that original idea. Architecture should be the resolution of frustrations, and the development of dreams into reality. Once the design is agreed and planning permission is obtained, comprehensive working drawings need to be developed to ensure inclusive and competitive tendering for the project by carefully selected builders. Regular site visits are required to ensure quality control and the monitoring of monthly costs. On hand-over, Certificates of Opinion on Compliance with Planning Permission and Building Regulations are necessary. All projects need to be followed up to ensure the correction of any defects arising after completion. I have been in practice since 1980, working on both residential and commercial projects, large and small. Discussing new schemes is always exciting, and a broad range of work sharpens the eye for opportunities and solutions. My intention is to maintain a small practice, with personal responsibility for every job, to be soundly constructed, and delightful to occupy.

Flavio Lombardo Architects is a forward-looking practice committed to design excellence with it's primary interest in facilitating innovative solutions. We place great importance on the way people use buildings, and how buildings affect our sense of well-being. We put a strong attention on the right use of materials, the qualities of light and the relationship between the project and its setting. We regard these issues to be more significant than working in a specific style and wish that each project will be an original understanding of the client, site, brief and budget. We enjoy having a broad range of projects in the office; from small to however big they may be and, we are capable of working across a range of sectors. We pay attention to client needs and we are interested in helping our clients develop an insight into a project, its problems and potentials. On-going dialogue with our clients is encouraged both as a means of understanding their needs, and of increasing their understanding of the design process. We are passionate about what we do and we work and co-operate with other consultants, providing support liaison, and co-ordination roles in addition to specialist architectural and interior design services.
