My wife and I bought a 200 acre run down farm on Edisto Island in 2009. We got Thomas involved with helping us design its rebirth and since that time he has helped us with several projects including the design of a creek side recreation area including a pier head, float and boat lift. We also built a boat house at that site and Thomas did the landscape plan that included an oyster shack and outdoor eating area. In 2019 we built a new home on the property and Thomas did the landscape, hardscape and entrance designs, and helped hire and manage the hardscape and landscape contractors. We hired Verdant Enterprises to design the landscape plan for our new home, and to oversee its implementation. Thomas and Jessica did an excellent job of presenting us with options, listening to our ideas, and adhering to the standards of our community. Their plan incorporates native plants, has interesting features (e.g. a rain garden) and works very well with architecture of the home. We are very pleased with their work.

We engaged Verdant Enterprises both to redesign our property after two hurricanes had inflicted extensive damage and to address the flooding that occurred adjacent to our garage after every heavy rainstorm. Thus the project required not only an aesthetic vision for the property, but also the engineering expertise to plan redirection of water flow. Three local architects had recommended Verdant Enterprises, and we could not have been more delighted by the working relationship we had with Thomas Angell and Jessica Higgins or by the fruits of it. They were painstaking in their initial analysis of the property; they solicited our ideas and listened carefully to them; they worked to incorporate existing plantings; they married landscape design to architecture; and most important, they came up with a singularly creative plan that never in a million years could we have come up with on our own. Thomas and Jessica were flexible, resourceful, budget-conscious and extraordinarily knowledgeable about plants, favoring varieties that are native to the region and more likely to be deer-resistant as a result (a BIG plus). Beyond design, we engaged them to manage the project bidding process and to oversee the work once a landscaping firm had been selected, and they excelled in these areas as well. The end result of our happy association with Verdant Enterprises is a graceful, functional landscape design that gives us--and our neighbors--continuous pleasure. We can't recommend them highly enough.

Thomas Angell has designed two landscape projects for me. The second one is a native plant garden on 1/3 acre which had previously been a pasture. His creative artistry resulted in a beautiful combination of hardscape and plants which has provided me with hours of joy for 9 years. The members of my community (Spring Island) often walk through my garden and all agree that it is spectacular.

Thomas Angell was very meticulous in his study of our landscape. His recommendations were well researched. He provided us with professionally detailed drawings, sent us pictures of species we were not familiar with, coordinated with the landscape crew and followed up with many visits to the property. He had a large task to accomplish, as we were attempting to screen a home that had been built next door to us. He did this, while maintaining the integrity of the surrounding beauty. Thomas transform my ordinary yard into a garden of beauty and function. He is an artist with an amazing eye. I am so happy with the job he did. I am still getting compliments from all of my neighbors!! Thomas was very professional and kept me in my approved budget. He visited the site often and even directed the placement of the hardpan.

My experience with Thomas Angell began around 2011 with his presentation at a symposium. HIs ideas seemed like a natural fit with my dream of a natural landscape for my home in a rural setting just outside a small Georgia town. He designed a comprehensive site plan with work to be done in stages (since my resources were limited). About 4 years ago I began to implement the plan. Working with a local nursery specializing in native plants, I have completed about three-fourths of the plan as of June, 2016. Thomas gave me tips along the way about how to use existing plants and other materials found locally in order to cut expenses. In addition to several site visits during the process he has stayed in touch via phone, text and email. I would definitely use his services again and recommend him to anyone considering a small or comprehensive project. .

The principal of Verdant Enterprises (Thomas Angell) had done the original landscape plan and associated follow-up for the previous owner of our house. He was also intimately involved in the development of the overall plan for our entire island community--a plan that was done more than 20 years ago. Many people in our community see him as the father of the "sense of place" that distinguishes our island from neighboring communities. Without exception, our neighbors recommended that we talk with him about an update to our own plan. We could not have been happier with Thomas' response. He also helped us find an appropriate contractor, and he followed up with them on those parts of the work that required his "eye."
