Suzie Atkin Intentional Design

I've had other designers and now, there is no one I would work with but Suzie. No one. She is hands down the finest. I first hired Suzie to help with my kitchen remodel. I was scared and overwhelmed at the magnitude of the project I was undertaking. Suzie guided me through the process with patience, insight and knowledge of materials and construction processes. Did I mention she also has impeccable taste? She listened to what I wanted, did not dictate what I should do when I didn't know what I wanted, but instead guided me to a finished kitchen that I absolutely love. I was heartbroken when she said she was moving, literally, to the other side of the U.S. I still had projects I needed her input on! And she did-- from all that way! I had whole house carpeting that she helped me select through phone calls, emails and pictures. But, the best was yet to come. We re-sided our house in the summer of 2018. It was dull and lifeless in its appearance. We wanted something more. The siding company gave us absolutely no help in design and gave us impossible timelines to develop a design and select materials and house colors. It was very difficult working with them. Who did I call? You guessed it. Suzie made one visit to our house and from that developed a design that our contractor now shows to prospective clients as a shining example of their work. Though she was miles away, she was always available when I needed her via my frantic emails and phone calls. Her material and design specifications were clear and concise and helped smooth a difficult working relationship with our contractor (who though sorely lacking in design skills in the end was excellent in executing Suzie's ideas). The result? A transformation of our house exterior to something we love. It would never have happened without her input. She is a delight to work with; a total professional that always meets deadlines and budgets seemingly without effort and creates a finished project that is loved by the owner. I am not alone--I have talked with her references-- there are others who feel exactly the same as I do about her. I recommend her highly.

Suzie was my lifesaver! After walking away from a difficult experience with another builder, I was in a mess. Suzie and Stan picked up the pieces and helped me start over again. She spent time with me and understood me from the moment we met. She went beyond the extra mile, as we worked together to design and create a whole house remodel that worked well for me. Suzie's outstanding design skills and detailed knowledge of construction resulted in building several stunning conversation pieces throughout my home. I had been given wood from an 1800s Conestoga Stagecoach Wagon and I wanted to use it to build a barn door. Suzie designed a stunning barn door that glides with the push of a finger. She also designed a beautiful bar top using reclaimed barn wood and glass. And my half-round myrtle wood desk that hugs my round windows off the kitchen is another well designed showstopper! Suzie's attention to detail and her support throughout the process was nothing less than fabulous! We started out being designer and client, but we ended up being great friends.....what a wonderful and unexpected joy!!

We couldn't have been happier with the help/guidance/handholding we received from Suzie. At the outset, we were admittedly somewhat "new" to remodeling, and didn't quite know what to expect. Suzie was especially patient with us, and walked us through all of our options with great care and in appropriate detail. She was very quick to appreciate and understand our tastes and remained true to them throughout the process, offering her own perspective when requested, and offering suggestions that added greatly to the final product. The end result is beyond what we ever anticipated. With her guidance every step along the way, the project came in on time and on budget. And in Suzie, we now have a new friend too! Worked with Suzie on a Kitchen remodel. She is great working together with the project manager to maintain all deadlines. Never had a project come in so perfectly on time. That's HUGE! Suzie has a great eye for design and a creative approach to color and materials. And, it's more than just the look of things. Suzie Atkin and Stan Friesen and the Neil Kelly team are highly professional, creative, and will always be my choice for any project in my home. I have worked with various members in several projects over the last 15 years and have always been exceptionally happy with the results. Whether it was a new kitchen, bathroom, removing several walls, new hardwood flooring, building a new deck, or building egresses, the projects were well planned, finished when expected, and with excellent cooperation among the team, the subcontractors and me. Suzie is always available for questions and is very helpful on trips to suppliers of tile, appliances,etc. Her eye for design of space and color work very well with mine and I'm sure she would work well with other styles as well. I'm looking forward to another project!

I met with Suzie for a consultation for a bathroom remodel project. She was super easy to work with. While we ended up deciding to postpone our remodel, I am 100% confident it would have been an amazing project if we had moved forward with Suzie. Working with her convinced me never to do another remodel project without the help of a designer.

Our total bathroom remodel in our 75 year old home was designed to enable us to age in place with ease and minor changes if needed in the future. Suzie Atkin is a very competent designer! Her listening skills and patience give her the ability to gently guide the client to a great design and finished project. Suzie does her research. Besides the hallway entrance and bathroom door being expanded to 36 inches, and curb-less shower, we now have a washer/dryer hookup in the bedroom closet if we can’t negotiate stairs at a later date. Suzie spent an incredible amount of time with us during the year from the first consultation to the completed project. We never once felt rushed nor was any question minor through the design process, choosing fixtures, knobs, counter top, and tile. The homework Suzie assigned us gave us a broader sense of what materials were available and the ability to make informed decisions. Suzie was very professional, punctual with appointments and deadlines, and easy to work with. She kept the kitchen remodel within the budget specifications we provided while also ensuring we received the quality and aesthetic we wanted for that room. Suzie made recommendations regarding use of lighting, cabinet space, under-counter cutting boards and counter top material that enhanced the usability, practicality, and beauty of the space.

Neil Kelly Design Company recently completed a bathroom remodel for me--my 3rd experience with the company. To say I am very pleased with the results does not give the team the credit they truly deserve! I greatly admire Suzie Atkin and her talents as a designer. She is not only very knowledgeable about everything "bathroom" but she was fun to work with. She came in as a stranger and left as a friend. Stan's organizational skills and attention to details made this process go so smoothly. If you ever figure out a way to clone Stan---I'll take a couple of him! The rest of the crew deserve praise for their efforts, talents and skill. We began our project as new owners of a beautiful 1931 Tudor home that had been recently renovated by the previous owner. With the assistance and guidance of Suzie Atkin, Designer/Consultant and Stan Friesen, Project Manager, we proceeded to add custom designed cabinetry, built-in closet space and a kitchen baking nook that is the envy of amateur pastry chefs everywhere. Because of the Tudor roofline many of the spaces were very challenging, but Suzie and Stan figured out how to make it all fit and look not only beautiful but totally functional and exactly what we wanted and needed. Before retaining Neil Kelly we researched and interviewed a number of firms. While some presented lower initial pricing, none could match the quality of workmanship, or design and construction expertise. Having finally decided upon Neil Kelly we began the design process with Suzie Atkin who was extremely professional, talented and patient. Although as owners we had been through a number of earlier projects in our other homes, and felt very familiar with the process, Suzie and Stan added their own special touches that we loved and admired. Once the design was complete they then worked with us on pricing by helping us research alternative materials and styles to assure the project stayed within our budget without sacrificing quality. After everything was decided upon Suzie and Stan then presented us with a precise outline in writing of the scope and sequencing of the work; information about every subtractor that would be involved; and how to contact Suzie and Stan 24/7 if there were ever any problems or questions. They also sent letters to all of our neighbors telling them a little about the project and gave them Neil Kelly contact information should the work or workers disturbed them in any way. Once the work started Suzie and Stan did an incredible job of insuring that all adjoining finishes and furnishings in our house were protected; made their work areas virtually dust-proof; and did everything possible to minimize the inconvenience of having workers in our home. In the end the work was finished ahead of schedule, under budget and nicer than we had ever hoped. By the time Suzie and Stan had finished we considered them not only outstanding professionals but trusted friends. A few months later we had an open house party with Suzie and Stan as the guests of honor. We simply could not be happier with our decision to hire Neil Kell/Suzie Atkin and Stan Friesen, Jr.

Suzie Atkin remodeled our master bathroom and closet. We were so pleased with the results, we hired her to do a complete kitchen remodel, which also included the laundry room. Suzie is an attentive listener who collaborated with us to create beautiful and functional spaces. Our master bath feels like a spa and the kitchen is a much better use of space with the added bonus of a recharging drawer. We are also very grateful for the recycling station in the laundry room. It was a joy to work with Suzie and her project manager, Stan Friesen. Their attention to detail and responsiveness to our questions made the challenge of remodeling, less challenging. We also appreciated their efforts to make living in the house during the remodel do-able.

Suzie is professional, forcused and friendly. She presented multiple innovative ideas, and kept us on the right path from plan conception to selection of materials through completion of the project. Suzie's design created increased storage and a more efficient space. She was able to pull together a plan that reflected our personal tastes and desires. Suzie gave us the kitchen of our dreams, a totally different look and a better flow without knocking down any walls. We were so delighted with Suzie and the Neil Kelly team that we hired them for a second project.
