About Us

Fortunata is a concept developer and interior designer for private and commercial clients. From the first sketch to the final decoration we help our clients developing and realizing bespoke living spaces, from (private) residences to hotels. Our strength is conceptual thinking. We believe a design should not be dictated by how it will be perceived, but should anticipate how the designed space will be used and experienced. This requires a thorough assessment of the wishes and needs of the client or the end-user. Our distinction is embracing heritage. We believe in enduring stylishness, rather than the whim of the moment. This requires an extensive investigation into the project or place itself. Its origins, its history, its characteristics. We aspire for a concept that logically links these elements together. Connecting people to spaces. Aesthetics and practicality, history and future, should blend perfectly together. Fortunata originated seven years ago from a desire to share our passion and aesthetic knowledge with others. Our clients allow us to work independently, with freedom of artistic expression and creation, trusting that this will provide them with the optimal design. When a concept comes to life, to see our designs being turned into real spaces, is pure magic. We feel very privileged to be given an opportunity to hand over our views to the people who will be living or working there. House of Fortunata Our story In 1780 the energetic Italian dressage rider Maria Antonia Fortunata met an Amsterdam aristocrat and merchant, using elegance and vivacity with class and reason. 230 years on, our family still holds to those pillars, adding a touch of the past to it. We believe that behind every great design lies a meticulously developed concept. Sprezzatura, as the Italians so wonderfully call it. Our concepts are built up from practical purpose, historic understanding and the timeless laws of proportion and style. A purpose for every detail. Aesthetics out of logic. Thus Fortunata today creates the heritage of tomorrow. Our company House of Fortunata is the place where we dedicate ourselves to optimizing living in all it’s aspects. We do this by developing concepts. This ranges from interior objects to interior design and even to large scale project development.

I was quite curious how they were going to find out our taste and after the first draft I was doubting whether they would. But with open and honest feedback, the second draft was already a lot better and the third one really spot on. We really love all the ideas they had and the things they found for us. Even until today they still offer great guidance and help sourcing the different things in our home! So big plus and we can really recommend them :)!

For our new house in the old city of Amsterdam we asked Fortunata to help us with some interior issues in the form of a brainstorm while walking through the house. This worked really well and Jacomien was very well prepared. Her tips and opinion were very meaningful for us and its very clear she is a pro and has so much knowledge. We adapted most of her ideas immediately, and that says something. She perfectly understood our challenges with house and listened to our personal style and taste. We strongly recommend Fortunata. It's almost a pity that our project is done.

Fortunata is open to everything. From focussing on a larger scale project to thinking about possible options to change a specific space. For example, Fortunata had some good tips on the refurbishment of one of the children's rooms in my house. Fortunata looks fresh and from a distance, which is very helpfull as it helps you looking in a different way at an existing situation as well. In addition, Fortunata thinks from a total concept that matches the atmosphere in the rest of the house, which gives a good feeling.

They have discovered for us some unique objects, enriching the house with exquisite furniture, and unique accessories. It has resulted in an elegant, tasteful, stylish interior, without the house having been turned into a showroom, very much to the satisfaction of the client. An authentic home, which is a day-to-day pleasure for its residents. The team of Fortunata are sincerely passionate and committed. We have commissioned Fortunata for a design and artist impression of rebuilding 850 m2 of studio and office spaces on a prime-location international media hub. Our goal was to sign a global broadcast and media conglomerate into a commercial real estate deal concerning the headquarters of one of their networks. Fortunata's design envisioned a metamorphosis of the deprecated premises into a modern office with character. By really immersing themselves in the experience of the end user, Fortunata came up with practical yet fresh ideas, fully in accordance with the conditions and wishes of the client. With Fortunata's design at the core of our pitch we were able to contract this important client. We recommend Fortunata's commercial sense, dedication to the project and their professional conduct and output, and look forward working with them again in any future project.

We have been working with Fortunata &Co for the last several months. Fortunata not only sourced gorgeous, unique pieces for our apartment, they also worked within our budget and listened to our needs and taste. Their approach was collaborative. Never did we feel we were getting pushed into a purchase or a design idea. They are personally lovely to work with and a have a great combination of practical living space advice and inspirational, whimsical ideas. Working with the design team at Fortunata was really great, they have an abundance of positive energy and their designs are rich and unique. Fortunata manages to use materials in a new way, such as taking a part of a church interior and building it into a hallway to be used as a giant armoire. Fortunata collect objects and art from around the world and incorporate them flawlessly into a home. All of their pieces, be it masks, wooden boxes, oversized urns, screens or vintage bangles, are available for sale.
