Joan Rothenbucher is one of those special people who is able to combine practicality and design talent. On two of our projects this has led to a beautiful landscape that is also friendly to the client's lifestyle and budget. One site was a rugged hillside, the other a manicured lakefront, and she was equally adept in both settings. She is very conscious of the landscape as it exists through all four seasons, and she is an excellent listener who is adept at providing options to fine-tune her design work in response to client comments. She is also a pleasant person to work with, a team player. And because her firm does both design and installation, Joan is able to solve problems and get the work done with exceptional efficiency.

Joan was a pleasure to work with, helping us develop our ideas and enhancing them with her many years of experience and expertise. She completely remodeled our new home's lackluster backyard to a 2-tier elegant patio with numerous creative features and wonderful landscaping. It's been a place that we've enjoyed for many years, giving us as much pleasure today as when it was first completed. We still receive compliments from our friends and family. Joan transformed our property to be private, beautiful and everlasting. We have a small corner lot and all the trees were knocked down for the new construction. For the past 10 years, Joan Rothenbucher has done fabulous work as the architect, designer, planner and manager of the reinvention of our outdoor space. When we met, we had done just a few things to enhance the environment, and Joan quickly envisioned what the space could become. She helped us see – in a practical, efficient and reasonable way – how, over time, we could reimagine the experience. She began with a master plan that, over the years, we adjusted as our needs changed, and installed the masonry and plantings in stages, with each phase significantly adding to the environment. Throughout out all the work, Joan and her crew are focused, professional, responsive and creative; as a result of our work with Joan, today when we step outside our house, we experience something so much richer than when we began.
