My intent is to design spaces that affect the quality of people’s daily lives. One of my clients summed it up perfectly when she said, "When I walk into my new kitchen, my heart just sings!"
I've been in the architectural and interior design profession for over 38 years, both in commercial and residential. The first 18 years, I focused primarily on architectural design. Understanding this side of a project gives me a unique insight not many designers possess…I understand the architecture which helps me create fully developed architectural interiors. The past few years, I've pursued a related passion and have taken landscapes design classes at Cuyamaca College.
I'm devoted to creating beautiful spaces but just as important is my desire to guide my clients through what can be a challenging process and make it a fun experience!
Good design is good design - whether it's contemporary or traditional, so I don’t have a particular design style. Instead, I listen very carefully to a client’s particular needs and then we establish a design philosophy very specific to their individual style, budget and functional goals. As their project unfolds each decision we make together is applied to that philosophy to ensure it supports their goals. Attention to detail is what makes the difference. What clients notice after they've moved into their new space is how much a well designed project changes their lives on so many levels.
Most of my clients come by way of referrals and many are repeat clients over and over. I've worked with The Hotel Del Coronado over 25 years and the San Diego Zoo for over 30. Many clients have become close friends and the “business” is really a lifestyle.
Art is an integral part of my life and I've been a ceramic potter for 28 years. I'm also a volunteer art teacher in a public school teaching 6th grade kids art with a strong emphasis on loving and protecting the environment and animals. I teach that creative problem solving is a life skill applicable to any profession.

This review is long over due. I started a remodel on my kitchen thinking I could visualize and do it myself. Mistake! Three quarters of the way through I realized the colors and materials didn't work. I found Jaci on Houzz. I felt a connection with her immediately and loved her artistic flare. Jaci came to the rescue and where I couldn’t do much about the hard materials Jaci saved the project with her incredible eye for color and tied everything together with a beautiful paint pallet. When I walk into my home, especially my kitchen, I am still thrilled and will contact Jaci before I ever do anything again. Professional, artist with an eye for detail and beautiful taste. Thank you Jaci!

After we had a minor flood that ruined some kitchen cabinetry and flooring we decided to get a little more ambitious. We're not great at designing rooms, or colors, or ya know having any competency with this sort of thing. From start to finish Jaci was fantastic and after the project I'm convinced we made the right decision to get her help. Why? The end product is way way way better than we would have designed ourselves, that's the biggest thing but it's not the only thing.
She was also a delight to work with, always our advocate when it came to vendors and contractors. It wasn't her job to keep our contractor on track but I appreciated her efforts to keep the job moving efficiently and following up on details. She made it clear to us when we could save some money by taking on aspects of the project ourselves but that she'd be happy to help and do them for us. We generally opted to have her help and feel we saved a lot of headaches and stress by doing so.
She was great at steering me from poor decisions without overriding what I wanted. She was good at patiently explaining the reasons she was making suggestions which really helped get my buy in. She made it clear even when she had other preferences that it was our preferences that ultimately matter and she could do things to make them fit which I very much appreciated. In the end we see a lot of ourselves in the final product and she found really clever ways to make the things that appeal to us turn into the best versions of what we had in mind. I'm convinced without her help we'd have ended up with something much less us, much less interesting, and far less put together.
I guess I had my preconceived notions about how this might go, which involved being pushed towards things I didn't like and/or were majorly expensive. Working with Jaci I never felt pushed or that she lost track of value for money in suggestions. She was a good steward of our budget.
In short I'd say Jaci far exceeded our expectations and I'm so glad we hired her. I wouldn't hesitate to hire her again. I would recommend her without reservations. If you're reading these reviews I urge you to have her over for at least a look at your project.

Jaci was amazing! We hired her to do a whole condo remodel on our downtown condo. She took our ideas and made them a reality. Her space saving ideas were great. She also worked closely with our contractor to make sure everything was executed perfectly.

We have worked with Jaci on several projects now. She does an excellent job of designing for her customers needs and aesthetics while still putting her own Jaci twist on the design. She has maintained a modern and sleek look on all of the projects we have been a part of while still having a unique look gauged specifically for that particular customer. Her design is presented to the customer as well as the the trades involved in a clear and concise way. Her drawings are at an architectural level. She always has clear vision of her design but is willing to take input from everyone involved in the project to get the best end result. We did a complete remodel of our first floor—new floors, new paint and a COMPLETELY new kitchen (redesign). Jaci got to know us personally so she could design based on our needs and likes. Behind the scenes I see Jaci working diligently and with true commitment to each client and their needs. Jaci was a consummate professional. We began our project focusing on interior paint colors and her feedback was spot on and to my liking. I soon realized I needed to expand the project to include an entire revamping of the furniture, fixtures, flooring, etc,. Jaci listened but also took the time to explain her logic in the redesign. While at times I was going outside of my comfort zone I'm glad I did! I'm VERY happy with how everything tuned out and stayed within my budget. I'd highly recommend Jaci and her services.

Have you ever had the fantasy that someone would show up on your doorstep and tell you exactly what you need to do--and be completely right? It's too much to say this company changed my life, but Springfield Design sure opened my eyes to an entirely fresh way of living in my own house of 25 years! I started out by inviting three designers to give me ideas and bids for a remodel of a dark and dated family room that hadn't seen much action since the kids grew up and moved away, leaving a hole that felt like a missing tooth. Two of the three designers colored within the lines I set out. Jaci Springfield immediately busted through them. She explained that she would be happy to help with the family room, but thought it would be wise to make some more sweeping reforms of other parts of the house first, if we could afford them, in order to create a coherent look. Then, without charging a dime for this initial consult, she outlined a series of flooring, architectural, and reconstruction "fixes" that she thought would take our 1960s home from "pleasant" to "showcase." None of them were ideas from which she would profit, but my husband and I could instantly see (through her eyes) that all of them would allow us to love our home in a new way. Long story short, we took all of Jaci's marvelous and creative ideas, then worked with her to refurnish and redecorate. In the end, even the old family room got a makeover that has us enjoying every minute in a space we had pretty much stopped using. Now it's ours again! My husband and I cannot recommend Jaci more highly, as a person of great integrity and a designer with extraordinary insight and vision.

Jaci designed a whole house remodel for me, and I couldn't be happier! She quickly understood the styles I like, and built on that to suggest so many good ideas! Jaci also has an architectural background that was incredibly valuable for my project; in fact, she came up with a killer floor plan for the entire first floor that includes an "art gallery" hallway with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the new courtyard... glorious!
In addition, Jaci also has a fantastic attention to detail and is incredibly organized... she takes meticulous notes on literally everything and follows up quickly. Believe me, this is a skill you'll want (I can't tell you how much I appreciated it), and Jaci has it for sure. If needed she can provide detailed renderings of ideas, but most of the time her comprehensive sketches were perfect...
I'll also mention that Jaci has an incredible network of top notch suppliers in San Diego for everything from tile to lighting to appliances, most of which she has worked with for many years and she was almost always able to pass on a discount for what we bought.
And to top it all off, she's a great person to be around and so fun to work with, just a pleasure. All in all, I know my project would never have been as good without Jaci's hard work and talent... I found her on Houzz and I strongly recommend her!

Jaci has been really fun to work with. This is the 2nd project she has helped us with. This time, she assisted us with 2 bathrooms, flooring, paint colors, and refurnishing 2 rooms. Her use of Pinterest helped us stay in sync with ideas. She was flexible to meet wherever we needed to go. She was on time and dependable. She had some creative ideas that have turned out to make a huge impact on our remodel, challenging us to get out of our comfort zone. She stayed positive and helpful through the whole experience. The challenge:
Create a retail store design to appeal to high-end customers using interesting textures and materials with long-term appeal, in an existing space with zero flexibility, all on a very "practical" budget, and, by the way - the building in which this space sits is more than 125 years old, with plumbing & HVAC to match and happens to be a National Historic Landmark.
I have worked with Jaci at Springfield Designs on several such projects, each time with incredible results. She has great listening skills, always taking great care to be sure all practical needs are addressed and met. Jaci's attention to detail is relentless and her experience and education in such a wide spectrum of related fields allows for great efficiency because she always knows the answer - or who to call for the answer.
Jaci's eye for color transforms a space and creates the perfect ambiance. Meeting deadlines and budgets is standard for Jaci and she is very forthcoming when a deadline or budget is not in line with expectations and works to find alternative solutions. Jaci consistently surpasses expectations.
On top of all her top notch work and talent, Jaci is also a delightful person anyone would enjoy working with, as I hope to have the good fortune to do again in the future. I cannot offer a more glowing review and enthusiastically endorse Jaci Springfield of Springfield Design.

We hired Jaci to help us with the design of our recent kitchen remodel. Our home is older, built in 1937, and the kitchen is small which made designing and utilizing the space well a real challenge. Jaci is extremely knowledgeable and really helped us to visualize what would (and wouldn't!) work, and stayed true to our modest budget. We are extremely pleased with the final result and grateful for her assistance!

I have worked with Jaci over the last 10 years and she is a delight! We have worked together concepting and designing 8 retail stores for the Hotel del Coronado. Jaci is a very collaborative designer who allows her clients to give alot of input. The finished product of each of our jobs far exceeded my expectations. As an Art Consultant, it's my job to listen to both the Designer and the client, while learning the direction of the design. Jaci is very communicative and very positive, and willing to talk through her vision. Recently, she invited me to present the artwork for a residential project, where a "strong" Abstract painting was purchased for the client's family room. The Art ads so much energy to the room, as does Jaci's design style. Jaci is amazing! She has the ability to come into a room and see it in a manner hidden to me. Her eye for color and design, arrangement and style are combined with her vision and confidence to transform your living space to your dream space.
She was able to come into my home, rearrage its contents, add and take away to make it perfect. Not only did she provide me with ideas and colors for my home she was also able to help my with my yard.

We worked with Springfield Design for almost a year. From design to project completion Jaci was easy to work with. She offered lots of ideas and helped us transform our home from cookie cutter to custom. We are thrilled with the outcome of the project and enjoy our "new spaces". She helped create a much more open and functional floor plan without adding any square footage. Jaci really listened to our desires and made it happen. This project included our kitchen, family room, dining room, living room and staircase.

As a young couple expecting our first baby, we didn't think our kitchen and living room remodeling project warranted a designer (or that we could afford one). When we met with Jaci, she listened to our requests and budget and tailored her services to our needs.
From start to finish, Jaci was there for us as a mentor, a guide and inspiration. Backed by decades of experience, she was able to assist us with our project; from the overall design down to the tiniest finish detail.
After such a wonderful experience, I now believe I can't afford NOT to have Springfield Design as part of my future projects. I highly recommend Jaci and Springfield Design.

I worked with Springfield Design on a partial house re-model which included a family room, 3 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a home gym. Springfield Design provided full interior design services that included CAD drawings, buying, project management, vendor selection and of course design services. The project spanned 12 months in its entirety at a pace I was able to manage and be comfortable with.
Jaci was able to stay within my budget however I decided upon higher end finishes so the budget was expanded. She also helped take us through the journey of remodeling where hiccups happen and issues arise. Jaci's ability to be the calm in the storm was extremely helpful in getting us to the finish line and without her we would not have the beautiful house we enjoy today.
What I enjoy about Jaci is that she does not limit herself to a certain "type" of design or only does "kitchens" as some designers do because there is more to a house than just kitchens and bathrooms.

I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing and working with Jaci on numerous projects over the last twenty-five years.
One of the most recent was this year as color consultant for our home. Her impeccable taste and knowledge of design resulted in transforming the rooms into warm and inviting spaces that my husband and I have enjoyed being enveloped by.
Our home has become our retreat due to her guidance and creativity.

I had the great fortune of meeting, and subsequently hiring Jaci, by way of a referral from a colleague a few years ago. Since that first project, I have hired Jaci for multiple projects on both the commercial and residential side, including my home. With respect to her design skills, Jaci has an incredible eye to combine existing elements with new concepts to create a finished product well beyond your expectations. She is not afraid to take risks to achieve a goal, but she will always make sure you are comfortable with the direction. I have yet to be involved in a project with Jaci I wasn't completely happy with. Perhaps of equal importance, in terms of a review, is letting you know how it is to work with Jaci. Admittedly, I am not the easiest person to work with, but Jaci's great sense of humor and ability to communicate effectively, has kept things on track. She is highly responsive and makes efficient use of your time. I would highly recommend Jaci for a commerical or residential project, large or small.

My husband and I contracted with Jaci Springfield to design and prepare necessary architectural details for the remodeling of our bedroom/bathroom suite and a second bathroom in our home. The existing spaces were totally gutted in the remodeling process. I cannot tell you how pleased that we were with the outcome and the relationship that we had with Jaci. Her ideas not only were excellent but, importantly, she listened to us and worked hard at accommodating our ideas and needs. She also worked well with the contractors that we selected for the job. Jaci worked closely with us in the selection of fixtures, furniture, flooring, tiles, etc. and never failed to promptly respond to our many telephone calls and emails over the entire length of the job. She was always upbeat even during some difficult times of decision making. She has our highest recommendation; her knowledge of materials and architectural details as well as her communication skills went well beyond our expectations.

As a real estate professional, I have recommended Springfield Design numerous times. Jaci has designed my client’s craft beer tasting room, remodeled a downtown condo and done several paint consultations. There are several things that set her apart:
-Her follow through and attention to detail are top notch.
-She communicates! Jaci was always on the phone or emailing responses to questions in a timely manner.
-Her experience - She has 30+ years in the business as an architectural and interior designer and she brings that knowledge to every project.
Her enthusiasm - Jaci has a light and fun demeanor and is capable of making the best of any situation.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her over and over again.

I have worked with Jaci of Springfield Designs in the complete remodel of my La Jolla condo. The remodel was in 3 stages due to my budget constraints. Stage one, 2009, (downstairs) living room, dining room, 2 stairways and a bathroom-----new flooring, countertops, sinks, new fireplace, overhead lights, paint, and all new furniture. I was not sure what style I wanted, but with Jaci's help, I chose a contemporary design and it is beautiful. Stage 2, 2010,(upstairs), 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a hallway----complete new master bathroom, overhead lights throughout the upstairs, and new furniture. Jaci used the paint scheme from downstairs but introduced some new colors with excellent results. Last, was an office, (upstairs), in 2013--------new paint overhead lights and new furniture. The result is warm and cozy and yet an office where I can work with my computer and review mail. It was scary at times putting my complete trust in Springfield Designs and not knowing what the out outcome would be , but the end result is just what I wanted. I have recommended Springfield Design to family and friends and they are just as pleased as I am.

Jaci Springfield is a truly outstanding designer who helped us immensely in decorating and furnishing our new house. We recently downsized from a very large home in Rancho Santa Fe to a smaller home and were struggling to accommodate our furnishings and art in a home that was not only smaller but of a very different style. We have worked with designers in the past with mixed results but with Jaci it was a very positive experience!
Jaci spent time finding out what was important to us and what our design objectives were. She is an excellent listener and worked hard to create an environment that reflects our taste. She has wonderful design sense and helped us to understand what would work best in our new home. She suggested furniture, accessories, window treatments, carpeting, lighting and so on in a way that helped bring everything together. Moreover, she did all of this in a cost effective way which we really appreciated. Jaci Springfield is a tremendious resource and has our unqualified recommendation for those looking for a true design profession that truly works for you.

I have used Springfield Design services on several residential projects in the past few years. These have included a full and elegant remodel of a 1100 ft condo, and an extensive color and flooring remodel of my current home. In addition Jaci (Springfield) has assisted me with major and minor bathroom remodels and given me lots of help on finding furnishings that work in my small home. It has a couple of awkward spaces and Jaci was able to find very practical and interesting solutions to using them. She is as good at designing outdoor spaces as indoor ones and assisted me with my back yard redesign-furnishings, pots, plants and flowers-too.
In years past I have worked with other designers and just didn't enjoy the process. I felt they often had "way out" ideas that didn't fit my lifestyle/personal style, and would often suggest spending insane amounts of money on a couch, carpet, etc Since they received commission on anything I bought, the sky was the limit. Jaci bills her services by the hour and is very clear on her time expenses.
She has incredible experience in commercial as well as residential work and can work in any style the client wants. She has a way of firmly guiding your decisions so that it all comes together beautifully, but you still feel as though you had a hand in the outcome. The other key thing I noticed with Jaci is that she works very well with subcontractors (and can often recommend excellent ones) who clearly respect her opinion. She originally trained as an architect and is probably nine or ten notches above most designers in understanding structural design issues.
Finally, she is a pleasure to work with. She is smart and efficient and manages to make the whole experience FUN too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her services.

I have hired Jaci Springfield of Springfield Design on two separate projects; one commercial and one residential. She delivered exactly what I was looking for and more. She made my ideas into dream realities. Her design sense delivers! She not only listened to me but she heard me and in some cases, she read between the lines. Jaci is respectful of budgets and gives options on where the money will make the greatest impact on the design. On the commercial side, my clients really loved my new front office and many have asked for her contact information. Seven years later, it is still a relevant design and highly functional. The home remodel is a true show stopper. She listened to my needs and desires and then added her elements and WOW! When the contractor and tradesmen can't wait to see the finished product, you know you have a winner. She made sure I spent the budget in the right places. At all times I knew that the project was all about me and giving me what I want, not what she wanted. That is a very good feeling when you are trusting someone with creating a new environment for you. She is a professional to the core, fun to work with, and highly respected by the people hired to do the work. Many days I felt that the contractors were going above and beyond because they knew they were part of creating something different and special.

Jaci was completely professional and respected my thoughts and ideas, gently organizing them, pointing out pitfalls, and steering me along the correct path. Her design concepts resulted in an absolutely gorgeous, comfortable total remodel of my home including the design concept, choosing materials, colors, lighting, furnishings, and cabinetry. The "Del Mar Master Suite" pictures on this site say it all. We enjoy our new bathroom and bedroom retreat everyday as well as everything else not shown. It was such a pleasure to work with Jaci!

This home was my first large-scale project and I needed lots of guidance, but I hadn't been feeling any kind of connection with designers until I met Jaci. I knew within a short time that she had a vision of my dream home, without my even having to jump through hoops to get it across to her. I've never met someone so in sync with my thoughts, wishes and desires for a home that my son and I could live in. Not only did she come to the project with years of experience, inspirations, visions and professionalism (that would have been plenty for me!), but she infused our working relationship with fun, sparkling wit and personality that I just adore....
Not only do I appreciate what went into my home, thanks to Jaci, but anyone who spends time here is also impressed by what she's accomplished...aesthetically pleasing, inviting, the kind of home that lovingly wraps itself around me and my friends and family. "Love where you live, and live where you love" are words that I'd ascribe to Jaci's ability to meld her designs with a client's wishes. Oh, and p.s.....my home just keeps looking better and better every year!
