H2D Architecture + Design

I highly recommend H2D architecture and design. They did an outstanding job on our 2nd story addition. We are extremely happy with the outcome of our house.

Heidi and her team did an amazing job from start to finish. We had a VERY large remodel-basically. new house and she and her team were responsive, practical yet creative and worked seamlessly with our GC. We had some complicated aspects to our project due to our property and Heidi dove right in with local and state agencies when that was needed. We are so happy to have worked with her!

Heidi and her team were fantastic to work with and did a great job. We had already done some preliminary work with a family friend who was an architect, but when Heidi and her team came in they quickly identified several options that we had not even thought of. The process from start to finish was extremely smooth - starting from 3 or 4 different layouts and then down selecting choosing our favorite design components to align on the final concept. Our project was a decent scope including kitchen, dining room, 2 bedrooms and a new bathroom. The process was quick with regularly scheduled status meetings. They also worked in lock step with the builder to ensure our design aligned with our budget. Would strongly recommend H2D to anyone looking for a remodel or new home build!

H2D helped us to change a closed off dark kitchen and an old fireplace and dining room into a functional and beautiful open space that matches our style and is perfect for our busy family. It is open, full of natural light, warm and inviting! They listened to what was important to us and also had the experience to implement a challenging structural change to our 70 year old house. We cannot be more thrilled. The design and architecture team were easy to work with. Payments were clearly laid out and a breeze. I love that the team was all women and locally owned and I feel very lucky to have chosen them right off the bat. Would do it again for sure.

Heidi and Lisa designed the complete remodel of our 1965 home. They listened to our ideas and then expanded upon them to create an excellent design. They thought of every detail, from window placement and bath fixtures to lighting. Their blueprints are so thorough we didn't have any change orders or other problems with the build. Heidi and her team are calm and no-nonsense. We trusted them completely and they did not disappoint.

Heidi and H2D were fantastic to work with! Our project included removing walls to create a larger kitchen / dining area, full kitchen remodel, vaulting ceilings, flipping our main stairs, 2 bathroom renovations, an open screen wall, as well as a new layout for our family room, laundry room and office. Heidi listened to our needs and created several plan options for us. There were definitely some creative ideas in there that had not occurred to us. Heidi was always professional and showed great attention to detail. Our project started pre-Covid and continued through Covid. We did not miss a beat with Heidi. She worked with the city and engineers to navigate permits and requests. There were of course a few curveballs thrown our way and Heidi was always unflappable and helpful even when we were stressing. She was easily reachable during our project when questions came up or changes needed to be made. Only after our project was complete could we really understand (and see) the complexity of her work. Our house now has an open feel and a great flow that makes sense. We are excited for our family to grow and make memories in our new home. Thank you Heidi and Team H2D!

Last year we did a remodel of some existing and outdated outdoor space. Heidi and Lauren were terrific to work with. They were accessible and responsive. Heidi and her team were awesome at listening to what we needed, providing different options at different price points to choose from, and ultimately designing a new space for us that's beautiful and very functional. They were great at communicating and really efficient with their time, and they worked well with our contractors. We would love to work with them again if the chance arises!

My project was a remodel of a rambler located in the mountains and surrounded by trees. I set out my desires for additional square footage, additional light, and if possible, to capture more of the view to our back yard which has an outstanding rock wall. I also wanted the addition to blend with the existing structure and to retain the cabin look. Heidi travelled to the property to understand my vision. She presented us with 3 different designs. The one we selected was built without modification. The addition turned out better than I had ever hoped. All the neighbors love it and have commented that it looks like the house was always that way. We no longer have to turn on our lights during the day due to a new bank of high windows facing the front. Heidi is an excellent listener. Her staff was also very good at dogging after all the permits to try to keep us on schedule. This is my fourth remodel of various kinds so I speak from some experience when I happily recommend H2D and Heidi as an architecture+design firm.

Cannot say enough about this firm. Our project wasn't an easy one and Heidi and team really helped us translate our dream home into feasible plans. We hired Heidi in late 2016 to provide architectural services and some project management services on a major home remodel. Virtually the entire downstairs and the master bedroom suite upstairs of 3000 square foot 1982 home was remodeled. Her creative design both updated the home to a modern look and makes it much more functional for our family. She met with us frequently over almost a year and listened carefully to our wishes for our home, she made it a truly cooperative effort. She greatly helped us, as novices, in our home remodel design and aided us greatly in the contractor selection process.

I purchased a home in Denny Blaine that had been redone for resale in a substandard fashion. I hired Heidi off of her firm's Houzz page and on the basis of our interview. The home remodel involved installing a three story polycarbonate elevator, roof terrace and stairway, garage extension and related terrace, fireplace removal and replacement, architectural landscape walls and renovation of the basement, which had major drainage and other problems inherited from the earlier builder. From start to finish, Heidi was the consummate professional and wonderful to work with at all times. The end result exceeded expectations as the new features blended in seamlessly with the upgraded portions of the original house and greatly enhanced the balance and feel of the home. Builders love her because of Heidi's attention to detail and clear articulation. She was collaborative and open to additional input from the contractor and client. Heidi stayed with the project from the hiring of the builder and permitting process through the end of construction. As we ran across surprises a la HGTV, she ensured that the solutions stayed on track with the home's design aspects. People always talk about how strained relationships can become on a remodel project, but that was never the case here as Heidi is gracious, calm and responsive. I cannot begin to express how lucky and appreciative I am of her innate talent and expertise..

Heidi and her team helped us design a remodel and addition of a mid-century home. Heidi is very professional and knowledgeable without ever coming across as arrogant or pushy. Her design was both beautiful and practical. She did a great job of listening and incorporating want we wanted, but also interjects alternate ideas or explains when ours aren't feasible. Her plans are clear, which is extremely important for the permit process (which she handled easily) as well as for the contractors. We now have a dream home that came together as we'd hoped and imagined, thanks in large part to H2d!!

Heidi is a Great Architect. She is very thorough and organized. I think one of her best skills is her ability to listen to you and your spouse's needs before she makes a suggestion. She wants to know how the space is going to be used and then comes up with very cost-effective ways to achieve the look and feel you desire without breaking the bank. I would recommend her for any remodel or new design project.

We wish we had chosen a different architect. Initially, H2D seemed competent and pleasant during the first part of our home remodel. However, our overall experience with them was unsatisfactory. Admittedly, our remodel was problematic and revealed challenges we hadn’t anticipated. However, common oversights and miscalculations by H2D resulted in generated revenue for H2D and added expense and time to our remodel. At the beginning of the project, H2D called for a meeting so we could discuss key design aspects of a particular room. The plans that H2D created after that meeting failed to reflect the very specific design choices we had made. Additionally, H2D miscalculated a key structural measurement that cost us time and money with our contractors (and it was a mistake that we, with no architectural background, were able to clearly see). H2D also provided plans with handwritten notes that we and 2 contractors could not clearly read. We asked the architect to make the notes legible, which was our expectation from the onset. She made them legible, but charged us an additional $1,200 for the changes. After receiving the invoice and us questioning the charge, the architect stated that she “did not work for free.” We asked her to consider reducing the charge by half. She agreed to a 16% reduction. The next invoice we were charged hourly every time a contractor called about our project. H2D managed to recuperate that 16% discount (and then some) by fielding our contractor’s questions. Our last dealings with H2D were when we discovered they had provided the wrong plans to a contractor without key revisions. At this point, all parties involved decided it would be better to deal with our structural engineer and bypass H2D entirely. A relationship with an architect is a critical component to a remodel. We had hoped that our architect would take responsibility for poor work and provide helpful customer service (other significant examples lacking in these areas are not included in this review). The continual errors made by H2D, combined with navigating the architects' temperament, made for a sour experience that aggravated an already stressful experience of a home remodel.

It was a pleasure working with Heidi and her staff on my remodel project. Heidi provided the necessary architectural plans and permits and guided me through the design process. We worked together on the design, combining my ideas with her valuable suggestions and expertise. It was important to me that Heidi was always available to discuss questions and concerns in a very timely manner allowing us to stay on task.

We hired Heidi to design a plan for a complete remodel of our kitchen, dining room, and living room. Just as we hoped, she came up with a great design that we hadn't even considered. She was responsive and a pleasure to work with. We're thrilled with the results.

I am a residential remodeler and this was my first time working with Heidi. My customer wanted a rework to the main floor of her house to include removing and adding walls, reworking the kitchen, filling in a sunken floor, reworking the floor plan in the laundry and bathroom, and adding a mud room for her kids. The customer had been recommended Heidi from a friend and introduced us early in the design process. Heidi was a pleasure to work with. She was easily accessible by phone or email and came by the jobsite to check on progress. The end result was a project that the customer said she could not have imagined doing without Heidi and her ideas for floor plan and layout. I would recommend Heidi to another client.

Heidi was a pleasure to work with, well organized, extremely creative while still very receptive to our input but with enough confidence to push back when we proposed ideas that would have been... unwise. We got multiple bids and with Heidi's very thorough work all the bids were within about 10% of one another since very little was left vague and open to interpretation. We went into construction with confidence that we'd end up with something we liked.

We were very happy with all the consultations and the work that Heidi provided us while searching for our home in Bellevue last summer. We selected her from her website and found her to be as advertised. She was immediately responsive to all of our requests for consultation on prospective purchases and remodels. She was personable and provided great communication to us and our contractor. We were totally happy with her work and recommendations. We will definitely be seeking her assistance with future projects.

We hired Heidi to add a master bathroom to the second story of our 1919 Craftsman house. Our main priorities were: project time and cost, functional use of space, and ample headroom. Heidi listened to our ideas and created structural plans and design elements that helped make the new space feel as if it had always been there. She helped us find a structural engineer and contractor, and worked diligently to help up us get our building permits as fast as possible. We always found Heidi approachable and responsive to e-mail and phone. This was our first house remodel and we felt Heidi helped us when we needed it but was not overbearing. When we talked to contractors before hiring her, we heard time and again how Heidi's plans were always clear and easy to follow. One contractor told me, "That may not mean a lot to you, but it should. Clear plans save you time and money in the end".

We have used H2D Architecture for our recent major remodeling project. We have added second story to the rambler. We expressed our design ideas to Heidi and she came up with 3 design ideas. We liked Heidi's additional design idea and decided to go with that. The end result is stunning and beautiful. Heidi is very professional, prompt, detail oriented and very responsive. She put together additional stuff needed for initial biding process like electrical planning which we are not aware of. She recommended 3 good contractors when we asked her. But we couldn't go with her recommendation. We haven't fully utilized her service during the construction process. But whenever we contacted her for recommendations and ideas during construction, assistance in some finish selection, Heidi was very flexible in accommodating our needs. We would highly recommend H2D Architecture & Design and Heidi exceeded our expectation.

We worked with Heidi of H2D Architecture for a partial house remodel recently. She was recommended to us by our contractor but we would hire her again. We had a lot of questions about the whole process, from design to execution, and she was quick to respond when appropriate. When we had some problems with the city regarding the permits, Heidi immediately contacted them to get clarification and make sure we wouldn't be penalized for missing a deadline. Overall, we had a good experience with H2D and will keep her in mind when we remodel in the future.

Heidi was our architect for an extensive master bath and deck remodel for our mid century home that is a registered Historic Seattle Landmark. In some ways the job was daunting.....but not to Heidi. Every step of the way she was excellent - highly skilled in architecture and design, great with helping choose materials and color, always considerate of ideas (I often have too many!), very responsive, and impeccably cost conscious and efficient. I have found my architect for life...who I know I will come back to again and again on future projects. So lucky and grateful I found her!

H2D Architecture + Design was great. They were cost efficient and create some great designs for us to choose from. We just did a simple dormer project, but I couldn't have asked for a better partner on this project.

Heidi helped us with the remodel of our home. We remodeled approximately 1000 square feet of our house, including the main floor, kitchen, dining room and living room. We had many ideas about the remodel and how we wanted to do things, and we found Heidi easy to work with. She was always very respectful, timely, organized, and easy to communicate with. Heidi presented us with different options and then together we narrowed then down and selected the look that suited us. Heidi introduced us to good contractor options, but we felt comfortable enough to act as our own general contractor and did the entire remodel that way. Heidi continued to provide important guidance and support throughout the process, and referred us to an engineer when we discovered, after opening the walls, that we needed to improve some structural support. Everything went about as smooth as can be expected for a remodel. Whether you want a more hands on approach to your project, or want someone to handle each step, Heidi is an excellent choice.

My business partners and i hired H2D, in June of 2013, for a remodel of our new restaurant Greenwood Alibi. We wanted to recreate the same atmosphere as our original location in the pike place market, but at the same time give the Greenwood Alibi its own personality. I have two business partners and we all had different ideas for paint color and choosing a brick facade that wrapped around our kitchen. It was really nice to see Heidi put together a color scheme that each business partner liked and she mocked a 3d image of our kitchen with the brick facade, which made it very easy for us to choose the walls we wanted covered in brick.

H2D Architecture designed an elegant, contemporary house with details chosen to reduce environmental impact. Attention to the flow of the house's open design included some modern Japanese influences. She was very helpful to architectural requests and suggestions and as a third party in construction decisions.

Working with Heidi at H2D architecture has been a wonderful experience. I asked my clients to consider adding Heidi to their short list of Architects for the major remodel and addition to their existing home. She was selected based on experience, efficiency, price, and ability to quickly relate to the Owners wants and needs. She turned a typical 50's style brick home in to a modern yet fitting home for the community. We first hired Heidi in 2008 to create architectural plans for our basement remodel. She not only helped us hire our contractor, but also was very patient in working with us through several designs challenges due to working with the bones of an older home. Since then she has seen our master bedroom/bathroom remodel from concept through design to completion. Now in 2013, we are working with Heidi on plans for the main floor of our house. During each phase she has shown professionalism, creativity, adaptability, excellent organizational skills, and endless patience. We would highly recommend her!

H2D Architecture + Design did a wonderful job of designing and overseeing the remodel of two of our main bathrooms and a guest bathroom. The two main bathrooms were completely removed and redone with beautiful vanities, counter tops, tile floors, tile tub and shower surrounds,and fixtures, They also helped us to select tub, toilets, sinks and shower. Our original bathrooms lacked any heat and we selected a combination vent, heat, and lighting system in the ceiling. It is so nice to have the heat now. New mirrors and lighting fixtures over the mirrors created much more light to the rooms as well. The architect met with us at tile stores to help us choose the type and color of tiles for the project - this was very helpful as we had very little experience with tile. We also had the entire house repiped and a new electrical panel installed. Our architect, Heidi Helgeson,worked with us to plan the staging of all of these aspects and the project finished on time and within the proposed budget. She was very good about listening to us about what we wanted and then making it work, or making recommedations that might work better. She recommended 3 contractors and we received bids from each and selected the company that we could communicate with the best. They were also very reliable. We will use H2D again and would readily recommend them to anyone.

H2D Architects designed a fantastic house for us. We were amazed with the thoroughness, creativity, and attention to detail in the design. H2D received several compliments about the level of detail from the bidding contractors. We look forward to building this home in the coming year.
