Gumpf Gardens has been a family-owned business since 1957 when Bert & Boblyn Gumpf bought a small existing garden center in a then rural section of Beaver Falls. Bert Gumpf, a 1956 graduate in landscape architecture from Penn State University, ran the landscape design & installation end of the business while his wife, “Bobbie”, left her nursing career to run the garden center. Together, they improved & expanded the business and enjoyed many years of success. All three of Bobbie & Bert’s children have worked in the business over the years, but their son, Jim, would be the one to carry on the tradition. After running crews for his father from the age of 15, Jim also attended Penn State where he received his degree in landscape architecture in 1979. Jim began his career designing & building while owning and operating a garden center in the North Hills of Pittsburgh for 17 years. Jim bought the Beaver Falls store from his parents upon their ”retirement” in 1997. And all the while, Jim continued to design and build some of the most beautiful landscape projects in the area.
