In January 2018, I did extensive interviews for a contractor after finding standing water in my home gym. I interviewed nine contractors and received nine estimates before I decided to select Lorick & Martinez as the company to install what I thought I needed was a French drain. Every other contractor quoted me to install a French drain and Gigi and Mike from Lorick & Martinez convinced me I needed a foundation drain not a French drain. They match the lowest bidder and looked over my insurance policy to confirm if the damage was covered by my insurance. In the process of installing a foundation drain, they patch a wall near the foundation drain and replaced a gutter. Lorick & Martinez went beyond the call of duty in record time. Gigi & Mike also reasoned with my neighbor to gain access to their backyard which was the source of the water. They worked within my budget and once they finished the project I was extremely satisfied. I highly recommend Lorick & Martinez for all of your home projects, it is a one-stop-shop, very honest company. I have referred them my friends and neighbors and will definitely use them again for any upcoming project.

We had Lorick Desgin and construction do a full house renovation. From the moment I met Gigi, the owner, I felt like she really got what we where trying to achieve. Which was to keep all the charmed of a older home but make it a comfortable to living in today. They took our 1910 home which was in very, very, very rough shape and turn it into a show stopper. This included taking off an existing tacked-on extension and rebuilding it with a master bedroom suite, indoor laundry room, a bonus area and a bathroom. They also updated and extended our kitchen, moved a bathroom to a more usable area, created more storage, repaired our living and dining room, and everything else in between. What I love the most is they took the original charm of the home and brought through the whole house. You can't tell where the old house and new house start and stop. The craftsmanships all through out the house is really a testament to the whole lorick crew. The attention to detail can not be beat. The wood inlay on floors, the cabinets, the precise paint job, and the angles of the trim are so beautiful. The house is not only beautiful but it is what's behind the walls that allows for the modern comforts of a new home such as efficient electrical, updated plumbing and proper insulation. I like that these updates where achieved with as much "green" building as possible for example, our kitchen floors are made of recycled materials and the roof cools the house using reflective technology. It has been a pleasure working with with all of the Lorick team from the administrative staff to all the guys at the site!

I first used Lorick Design in 2011 to completely re-design and update my very small bathroom (built in the 1920s, last up-dated in the 1950s,) Gigi (the owner) was able to capture additional space from the hall closet, add storage I never had before, and make the room more functional than it had been. Since then I've used the firm to build a pergola, change my flat tar and gravel roof to one with enough pitch for external gutters, paint my house. There was very little disruption to my life during any of these projects; her workers, many who have been with her for some time, were always on time, always cleaned up at the end of the day, always a pleasure to work with. The project cost and year reflect the year of the bathroom and pergola.

I have worked with Gigi for over 15 years. She has done every project at my house that encompasses the breadth of her talents. I started small with window replacements, fences and patio concrete work. But I soon moved on to full remodels--Gigi has done two full bathrooms and a complete kitchen remodel. The white kitchen in the photos is mine. I love Gigi's design and problem solving skills. I will not work with another contractor. She runs her business well and has an amazing crew. Some of her folks have worked for her for more than 10 years. You will be exceedingly pleased with her work and will return to her for all your home construction needs. You cannot go wrong with Lorick Design and Construction!

I am currently using Lorick and will write a complete review after my job is complete. It is a very large job but I have had enough experience thus far to be able to help others who are looking for design, build, et al pros.
I came to Lorick on a reference from a contractor with whom I had a 20+ year relationship and whose work I knew was close to impeccable. This contractor was reluctant to recommend anybody but he told me he had personally observed Lorick's work in process and completed and was impressed. I had previously hired a licensed architect who I ended up, on the advice of the State of California, suing for the $16,000 he charged me. That architect had provided plans that were unusable to say the least. Thus I came to Lorick with unusable plans and after a rigorous review of established and well reviewed contractors in the design/build AND architect domain, I found only 2 firms that met my, as you can imagine, particularly rigorous new standards of competence and trustworthiness. It was between Lorick and probably the oldest and most experienced design/build firm here in the east SF Bay (who is on Houzz's site). Lorick's competitor met all my requirements and I had no doubt about his trustworthiness but I ended up with Lorick for 2 reasons:
1. When and if at all possible, I put my money where my mouth is re diversity: I want to support businesses - especially in those industries dominated by men and non-minorities - owned and operated by women. I.e., If I have 2 firms before me of equal competence and trustworthiness and with whom I feel equally able to communicate well, I will go with the one owned and operated by women or a minority.
2. The contractor who recommended Lorick is someone whose work I knew (20+ years) and whose work is of such consistent high quality and of such reluctance himself to recommend ANYbody, his recommendation was higher in value than anyone else's.
My job is a very large job - essentially taking an 850' home and adding an entire floor while establishing a level entry into the building. Everything from plumbing to a new foundation (to say the least) is involved including pulling permits and just plain complex and challenging design problem solving.
So far, I have not been disappointed. Lorick I found not to be the cheapest but also not the most expensive. Where problems have come up (a wrong door or crew disturbing neighbors, for example), they have been relatively minor and Lorick addressed them immediately. With regards to design, she came up with solutions others thought did not exist.
Honestly, out of what was and probably will always will be the biggest financial catastrophe of my life (the licensed architect who essentially stole 1/4 of my retirement savings - I and 3 licensed architects I know still can't fathom how such individuals are permitted to continue stiffing Californians...), I found the best.
Nobody's perfect - where I have found problems with Lorick is some of the administrative stuff (billing and invoicing has not been the smoothest) but if this is the biggest problem I have with a contractor, frankly - I can deal with that.
I will write a more complete review (with photos) when my job is complete. I hope this is helpful to folks.

Absolutely amazing. I have an old house that has been treated to a fair amount of neglect over its 70 year life. Gigi and her team made it sparkle like new. Inside and out. The house was completely transformed on time and on budget. Gigi and her team are completely amazing from start to finish. She handled everything from a beautiful, functional design to dealing with the city, and executing a flawless construction project. Everything was extremely well organized and the results are beautiful.
First off, the construction is top notch. Everything looks flawless and is constructed with high quality materials. The workmen were all professional, polite, and above all helpful. Everyone I worked with at Lorick went above and beyond in terms of attentive customer service. Her foreman, Mike, would answer all manner of emailed questions at night and on weekends. Right away. Even on holidays. Anything I wanted done I just had to ask. All concerns I had during the build were addressed and taken care of immediately.
And everything went amazingly smooth. They even worked around our furniture and washer and dryer. In fact, the whole utility upgrade went off without more than an hour or two without water or gas. And this was over the course of months. This was a project that involved rewiring the main junction box, putting in a new water heater in the opposite part of the house, and adding electricity, gas and water to the addition. They replumbed our washer and dryer about 10 times in order to prevent us from having to use a laundry mat.
In addition, to doing beautiful work, they also work with amazing precision and efficiency. They had to build us a new roof during the one period of rain we had at the end of last year, and we didn't have one leak. They ensured that they had the right number of people on the job each day to get the necessary work done. And they were on time every day. During active construction, people showed up every morning at 8am sharp. Everyday I came back from work, I could see the project moving forward by leaps and bounds.
Gigi herself is a pleasure to work with. A consummate professional with a kind heart and a serious eye for craftsmanship and detail. The workmen knew that she demanded perfection and so were careful to work to an incredibly high standard because they knew that Gigi would not hesitate to make them do it again. Consequently, nobody ever had to do anything again since it was better than right the first time. Gigi would personally review the cost, the work, and the progress of the project and was always completely on top of what was going on.
I feel truly fortunate to have had Lorick Construction work on my home. Everyone who works for her is a professional craftsman who knows their trade. The exterior paint job that was done was dazzling in it's detail. Every last corner of the house was brightened and restored to a level I never imagined possible for my poor old, neglected 1940's 3 bedroom. I'm talking about custom milled, redwood siding from Northern California, installed, sanded, calked, and painted. The house was restored to original condition on the outside and amazingly better than original inside. Interior paint was perfect too. Not a line out of place. They insulated the attic and installed central heating and now all the draftiness of the house is gone. The house was literally transformed inside and out.
If you are going to remodel, you should call Lorick. I can't recommend them highly enough.

After interviewing over half a dozen architects and not getting the response we were looking for, we found Gigi. She was exactly what we had hoped for - someone who listened to us, worked with us, and was able to create a home far beyond our expectations. Everyone of her crew members and subcontractors were respectful, friendly, and empathetic to our struggles of living in the home during the remodel. We are now in the middle of another project and she and her crew have made it as easy as possible for us. I cannot imagine working with anyone else - nor will I. You can view one of our projects under Edgars house remodel.
