We worked with Dermot in 2018/2019 to design the extension (2,000 sq ft) to our 100+ year old cottage. We are so conscious of maintaining the integrity, heritage and tradition of our cottage and we were looking for an architect who genuinely understood how to work with the cottage, respectfully. Dermot did just this. He listened to us when we told him what was and wasn't important to us, how we live, what the house meant to us etc. His vision for our extension and the transformation of our cottage was spot on. Everyone who sees our plans or is working on the house, comments on how he has optimised the space and everything makes sense! We are at the building phase currently and we are so grateful we took our time and worked with experts to get the design phase just right.

We engaged Paul Carpenter of Cook Architect's to design an ultra modern house on a tight site. He designed a spectacular looking house for us, and as an added bonus it is far larger than we ever imagined was possible on such a small site. Because the site has nice sea views he put the living area on the second floor to capture same. This level is reached via a magnificent staircase designed by Paul. He cantelievered both sides and half of the front to create the extra floor space, and with double height ceilings it is really amazing what he achieved. It has been featured on two Irish Interior magazines commanding the cover of one, and is regularly photographed by people passing by. While maybe not as big as their others projects, Dermot was willing to come on board and help to carefully transform a 130 year old mid-terrace into something very modern and special. My original aspirations were challenged, the existing structure was repurposed in ways we wouldn't have imagined, and the design advice and calm support when issues came up prevented a lot of stress.

We first met Dermot in late 2017 when we were considering the purchase of our house in Ardfallen. From the outset he had a vision of what our project could be like, and now we are delighted to have realised our dream, with his help, from the concept right through to the finished product. He created a modern and functional home for us, with plenty of light and a good balance of both open plan spaces and separate rooms to retreat to. What I love best about the house is the fact that the rooms are well proportioned in size and filled with light. He prepared a thorough set of tender documents for us, with great attention to detail, which ensured that our build went smoothly and in the end there were very few changes from the original design, and very few hidden costs. There is also a real wow factor to the exterior of the house, something that we never would have envisaged at the outset. Dermot is a good communicator and we took a lot of his ideas on board even though they may not have been exactly what we had originally imagined; however I am delighted that we put our trust in him because we could not be happier with the end result.

We had previously engaged Dermot's services for a refurbishment of our house a few years ago and again for an extension in 2019/2020.
