From beginning to end it was a great experience. Bob came out and measured and we were then emailed the cost of the project. After we decided to move forward, we went to their showroom and, after we decided what exactly we wanted, they removed our old mid-seventies metal handrail and installed a thing of beauty. We have a bilevel house with a knee-wall and only the railing and balusters from the entryway going upstairs and around the perimeter of the upper entryway area needed replacing. The lower level just needed a new handrail mounted to the wall which was stained and installed to match the railing going up the steps. The installers were great and Nancy answered my many questions when I would call with them, before, during and even after the project was complete. In the past year-and-a-half we have had a new roof installed, a new cement driveway pad poured in front of our garage, a new HVAC system installed, new luxury vinyl installed in some of our flooring areas and carpet in others, and are currently dealing with a kitchen remodel (biggest headache of all) but the work done by Schutte is my wife's favorite and just makes the entryway "speak" like it never has in our 30-plus years of living here. I highly recommend Schutte Stair Company!

In short, Schutte Stair Co did an amazing job replacing our staircase and we couldn’t be more pleased. However, the short version doesn’t capture the artistry and craft of their work or the extent to which they provide customer service. In our initial consultation, Bob listened to our vision of returning the modified and patched together staircase to one more in keeping with a 130 year old farm house. Bob measured, photographed and pondered how to best replace the stairs. He also encouraged us to look at the newels and balustrades in the showroom as well as the architectural salvage businesses in the area while the stairs were being constructed. His advice regarding the type of wood to use for the stairs was taken and provided a perfectly fluid match to our original pine floors. Once Andy and Stephen installed the stairs (taking care to cover the steps in paper tp prevent damage from contractors), they painstakingly took apart the old newel we found at the Wooden Nickel (btw Bob went down to check it out to make sure it would work before we bought it) and refinished it back to its original splendor. They also crafted a matching landing newel and topped each with a hand finished finial. We very much appreciate Bob and Tara’s patience while we (me) decided on the balusters. The staircase is now the focal point of the house and we absolutely love it.

We were in need of new stair railing, and after several quotes from this company and other companies we selected schutte stair company. We couldn't be more pleased with our selection! They were wonderful to work with from start to finish! We were also on a time crunch and they were able to finish our project in ample amount of time and did a fantastic job! The finished project turned out exactly how we wanted. Look no further for a stair company to do your home!

I contacted Bob about an antique railing. The home was built 1867. Bob was honest in his appraisal of the situation. Even though he was very busy, he came out, inspected the old farmhouse, and took the time to explain, that if we did the railing, the entire rail would have to be brought up to code. The amount of repair to wall connections as the rail could not stay at the current height would be a specialty task. Closing in of spindle spacings would dramatically impact the appearance. And the rail itself, timeworn and beautiful from the 7 odd generations of hands that held tight as the stairs were traveled, while intact and functioning, probably would not meet the new codes. He even directed us to a supplier who could replace the two ancient splindles that were, up to that point, unreplaceable Bob's attention to detail, appreciation for historical significance and willingness to share his vast expertise was a striking display of professionalism.

I'm doing a deck re-do and needed new stair stringers but couldn't find them pre-made anywhere in the size we needed. Schutte Stairs was recommended and I went there on a Thursday with my dimensions I wanted and the stringers were made in less than 24 hours. Great people, great service. Would recommend to people. After contacting this company in September of 2015 and talking with Bob Schutte the owner I decided to get a quote to replace the stairwell and railing in my home. After multiple calls and voice messages left to set an appointment (with many no return calls) Bob finally came out in early October and said he would get back to me with a quote the following week. It’s going on two months now and after many more phone calls with several promises that the quote would be done the next day. I still not have a quote. This lack of service has stopped my remodeling project dead in its tracks. The final straw was when I made one last attempt to get the quote and if that was not possible to please refer me to another contractor. Bob Schutte did not even have the common courtesy to return that call. Don't waste your time with this business.
