Blue + Alder

False Information / Misrepresentation Please beware if you use this company. It is just a husband and wife team. They say they have 4 offices, Miami, Naples, NYC, Chicago. This is not true. They work with third-party contractors. I went to Houzz in search of good decorators/ contractors to remodel our bathrooms and I was introduced to BLUE + ALDER by a Houzz representative. We are having a very difficult time and our work was never started. I first interviewed Kevin on a conference call with a Houzz representative Feb. 2019 he seemed super nice and sold me on the fact they have a lot of projects in Florida and how they work in NYC / NJ. etc. I then initiated a meeting with Kevin in March 2019 and he came with his wife Heather. They brought me the Florida Design Magazine to show me their two-page ad and to assure me they were a big company. Family run. We met a few times after and they brought me samples to show me their vision. After giving some thought and speaking with my husband we decided to go with their company. In June 2019 I signed the papers and gave them a deposit of 1/2 the amount. It felt high and I was hesitant because I'd been burnt in the past. But they seemed legit, especially since they invest so much in advertising. I also did some research on them and it all looked pretty good. The only red flag was their license was issued in 2018 and they only had 4 reviews. But we all have busy lives and don't always get around to writing reviews so I overlooked it. They did, however, post a lot of nice pictures. Now, looking back I should have questioned all those concerns When I gave them the deposit. I told them they needed to start the permit process right away since that takes the longest. I signed some more papers and sent them a key for the apartment since I don't live there full time. We went back and forth on selecting the materials for a couple of weeks after and it was all smooth. In July I didn't hear anything from them and assumed that they probably applied fo the permit and were waiting. I initiated a call to Kevin around the 3rd week of July and left a message. I did get a callback and was told by Heather they had some personal issues. They had not submitted anything for the permits and needed a couple more weeks. I was understanding and was ok with that. August rolls around and mid-month I reach out to Kevin and Heather, to see if the permit was submitted and if they need anything from me. That's when I found out they still haven't submitted anything and now all of a sudden they need me to sign something. They courier the documents and I send them back right away. They applied for my permits near the end of August. This process went on and on and I was given stories and excuses. At first, I thought it was me but then the stories didn't add up. For one, it said on our contract that permits and drawings included. Then Heather and Kevin tell me that the permits are not approved and we need an architect for an additional cost. The architect they hired also is another long story. Or they said they met with the reviewer to see why the permits were not being approved and to get the details. When clearly they never met those people and had missed the appointments! There are so many more incidences. I know this because by mid-September I became suspicious and started to take the permits in my own hands. The staff in all the departs were so helpful and would tell me what was going on. I have numerous emails and texts that have been ongoing that I have caught Heather and Kevin on. So many issues and misinformation. We are now in November and our project HAS NOT EVEN STARTED! They couldn't even get my permits finalized until I flew down to Florida in early November to finish it myself. I am in the process of getting what is owed to us. We have stopped everything due to trust issues, misrepresentation, and fraud. We are getting legal advice. The stress and anxiety they have caused me and my family is horrible. Please do your research. Check their names and offices in all states Chicago, Miami, Naples, and NYC. I wish I had done this myself before and I wish I would have questioned why there are no recent reviews about them. I hope this helps the next person. PROJECT INCOMPLETE.

Blue+Alder was fantastic to work with on our home .This was a renovation that needed good design for the interiors and construction talent to get the job done.They were able to do both and achieve a beautiful result.We looked for their design eye throughout the project to enhance our interiors whether it was selecting unique tile for the kitchen and baths,wall coverings,window treatments or cabinetry,Blue+Alder just transformed our space to be more transitional with current design.They went above and beyond to make sure our home was functional and stunning.They were timely,on budget and so creative.

We hired Heather and Kevin to develop a complete design concept to renovate our legal office which is located in an historic house. This project was a complete renovation and was very extensive including 2 conference rooms, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a library, 2 reception areas and 7 offices. Heather was able to maintain the integrity of the house and give us all workspaces with today's modern conveniences and technology. She helped select everything both inside and out including fixtures, furniture, flooring, carpet, paint, work stations, etc. The transformation was amazing. The project was completed just over two years ago and we still have people inquire who helped us with the design work. Phenomenal design concept. Very professional and easy to work with. Did such a wonderful job I hired Heather to plan and design a large renovation at my home. Would highly, highly recommend.

Kevin and his team were incredibly responsive and flexible. I am very picky about my design and the flow of my appliances, cabinetry, etc. Kevin took the time to understand my needs and alleviate any stress I had about the project. I am very thankful for Blue and Alder's attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile to make sure I had the most beautiful kitchen I could have imagined - I recommend them to anyone and will be using them to complete my next project as soon as possible!

After several jobs with Kevin and Joel, it has been clear that these guys are the pros they say they are. In my architectural business, I rely heavily on clear concise information so that I can put out quality and accurate drawings and renderings, both Kevin and Joel are exceptional at that, so glad to have them as clients, and close colleagues, looking forward to a long relationship with them!
