Lauerhass Architecture

We searched a long time for the right architect, and finally chose Amy Lauerhass. One of the best decisions we've ever made! We hired Amy to design a new home from the ground up, incorporating as many forward-thinking and eco-friendly design aspects as possible. This house will be on a modest urban lot, in a historic district that requires board review for new builds. Our wants were specific and lengthy; this was not a simple job. After interviewing us in depth, she came back with not one, but three different design approaches, incorporating every single request into each, without the need for zoning variances. We were beyond impressed, and flat-out stunned! We chose one direction, and after a few revisions, she presented us with an amazing design that included everything we requested. The design is livable, flexible, attractive, and sensible. Amy then worked with us to obtain approval from the community board. With her help, it was an enjoyable experience that proceeded quickly and smoothly. She has since created all the construction documents, revised and tweaked whatever we request, and stayed in contact to share the joy of our ongoing project. By choosing Amy as our architect, here is what we got: * a personality who balances artistry and practicality * an architect who is human, relatable, and has a sense of humor * someone who really 'gets' how families live in homes, be they typical families or quirky ones like ours. * NO DRAMA. Seriously, because who needs that while building a house?? * Reasonable cost, upfront explanations, no surprises.

We worked with Amy for an entire home renovation and additional design plan. She was fantastic to work with. Amy clearly listened and understood our goals/needs/wants, and she also came up with creative design options to maximize our floor plan and space. She has incredible attention to detail and excellent follow up. We could not be happier with our results! Amy helped us create our dream home.

Amy was excellent to work with. We were recommended to her by a trusted friend and she definitely delivered on the architectural design of an addition to the back of our home. She listened to our hopes and wishes for the space and thoughtfully crafted a vision that was reorganized the space in a way we never even thought of (and we had been thinking about an addition for at least 2 years). We used Lauerhass Architecture to design an addition to our 1922 craftsman home. We added an additional first floor master bedroom with attached master bath. In addition to that we added a small library, a small laundry area.and a detached 2-car plus garage. We added 600 square feet of living space.

Amy has worked on two challenging projects for us with great creativity and patience. She is a consummate professional, very talented and lovely to work with. A great listener, Amy knows how to draw her clients out and determine what we need and truly want.

We used Amy both for a major addition before she had her own firm and then again when we did a major renovation of the basement in our home. The common connection was Riverstone, our contractor. The house was built in 1940 so Amy had to deal with both the old, low-ceilinged part of the house and the new basement that we dug out but didn't finish when we did the addition. We really liked her creativity and flexibility and were thrilled with the final result: three main rooms plus a full bath and storage in the basement plus a new bathroom on the first floor and a hidden library on the second floor. She really listened well to what we wanted. Couldn't be happier and we'd happily recommend her.

Amy Lauerhass designed a home addition and complete interior renovation to include kitchen, bath, master closet, and laundry room. Amy more than exceeded our expectations. She was easy to work with and very accommodating! We would highly recommend her to others.

We have worked with Amy on two major home renovation projects. In our first project, we re-configured our existing first floor to create a more functional and open space. We also added a mudroom and bathroom. A few years later we added an attached garage with a second floor bonus room and remodeled our master bedroom and bathroom. Amy is wonderful to work with in the concept and design phase - She listens and makes great suggestions. She also worked well with our contractor during the construction phase and was always available to answer questions or talk over issues.

My family purchased a 100 year old house in Bexley in 2015. The front half of the house had graciously sized rooms, with lovely leaded glass windows - all quite lovely. Then we walk to the back of the house and found a kitchen the size of a closet, a family room that was an enclosed patio with bare brick walls and wouldn't fit a couch and a master bedroom with no closets, to speak of. Amy listened to our goals of balancing the rooms in the back with the front, bringing in much more natural light, and maintaining the architectural integrity of the house. She designed an addition that so complimented the original architecture my neighbors have remarked that it "doesn't even look like you did an addition". Amy also paid attention to our financial constraints so that, when building started, we could stay within our budget. She was always available to us and to our contractor as the project moved forward. Wonderful service. With Amy's significant talents, the house has gone from an ugly duckling to a lovely swan.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Amy. She had great ideas for the remodeling of our 1920's home. We put a large addition on the back of the house located in a very old traditional neighborhood. Her design gave us much desired space while keeping with the aesthetics of the community.

This is the second project that we have completed with Amy. She is fantastic to work with. The first project was a large addition, the second was a mudroom/laundry room. She listens to what you want, how you plan on using the space, your budget, and considers the existing structure. You can not tell where the original house ended and the new additions begin. Very innovative and believes in a quality outcome. She is great! Would not hesitate to hire her again and have referred her to friends.
