About Us

Alex Tart Architects is a Chartered RIBA practice established by Alex Tart. We are an experienced and passionate London based team specialising in high quality residential architecture. Our office is based in Putney SW London, from where we have completed projects across London and the countryside. The rare combination of experience in both high quality classical design and contemporary design has formed the basis upon which Alex Tart Architects was founded. The background and experience offered by other team members is similar. The ethos of delivering beautiful, high quality classical and contemporary residential designs defines the practice. We strongly believe there is place for both styles. This is reflected in our designs, where the two feature seamlessly alongside or independently from one another, as dictated by the context of the project and the client’s brief. Our current list of exciting projects range from new classical country houses to basement extensions and refurbishments in central London. Every project is approached with passion, flair, excellence and a high attention to detail.

We approached Alex and his team for our house after their being recommended by a friend. We wanted to extend the house to the rear as well as creating a full basement extension but were concerned about obtaining planning permission given the houses location in a conservation area. Alex managed not only to give us a design that far surpassed our expectations but to obtain planning permission smoothly. Once on site, we were always kept well informed of how the project was progressing and felt in control throughout the construction phase. The outcome is a house we all love living in, and I couldn’t recommend Alex and his team enough.

Falchi Interiors

Alex and associates worked on a project in Bray for us extending an existing property within its own boundaries and keeping the integrity of the building. They did an excellent job extending from the master to incorporate a large en suite bathroom which was essentially dead space. The result is the client now has a beautiful master bedroom with en-suite and dressing room. The second phase of the project was to design an orangery/conservatory where the decking at the back of the property was located, integrating this extension into the existing dining room. My clients and Falchi Interiors are more than happy with the design and above all the communication with Alex Tart Architects. I look forward to include their expertise onto other projects and feel confident they will translate the clients and our specification into reality.

Alex Tart Architects' experience and track record of successfully gaining planning approval on sensitive sites in Conservation areas, led to us appointing the practice. We had previously received two refusals for planning permission for a new dwelling on a site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Alex Tart Architects provided a refreshing approach to the project, successfully designing a sensitive scheme, which also met our brief, within budget. Working closely with the planners the architects negotiated a valuable, successful planning approval. Throughout the project Alex Tart Architects' experience and professionalism were demonstrated. We would highly recommend the practice and have continued to work with them again since.
