We were challenged to restore and breathe new life into a beautiful but neglected Grade II* listed home.
The sympathetic renovation saw the introduction of two new bathrooms, a larger kitchen extension and new roof. We also restored neglected but beautiful heritage features, such as the 300-year-old windows and historic joinery and plasterwork.

One of our most poplar exteriors! This modern take on the farmhouse brings life to the black and white aesthetic.

This post-war, plain bungalow was transformed into a charming cottage with this new exterior detail, which includes a new roof, red shutters, energy-efficient windows, and a beautiful new front porch that matched the roof line. Window boxes with matching corbels were also added to the exterior, along with pleated copper roofing on the large window and side door.

The original house, built in 1953, was a red brick, rectangular box.
All that remains of the original structure are three walls and part of the original basement. We added everything you see including a bump-out and addition for a gourmet, eat-in kitchen, family room, expanded master bedroom and bath. And the home blends nicely into the neighborhood without looking bigger (wider) from the street.
Every city and town in America has similar houses which can be recycled.

Instead of removing or painting the brick, Paul covered it with a slurry coat and added an accent of creamy white painted trim. Keeping it also created an interesting bonus: A bit of the brick’s texture is still faintly visible and adds dimension. Leaning into the French Provincial theme, Aegean blue-painted shutters offer a pop of welcoming contrast, as do the rich copper downspouts and collector heads along each side of the residence.

This Lincoln Park renovation transformed a conventionally built Chicago two-flat into a custom single-family residence with a modern, open floor plan. The white masonry exterior paired with new black windows brings a contemporary edge to this city home.

Located on an established corner in the neighbourhood of Killarney in Calgary, AB, this new single-family custom home was designed to make a lasting impression.
With a striking rectangular design and plenty of modern clean lines, this home is full of character. Materials include smooth stucco, horizontal siding, brick, metal panelling and cedar accents – and of course, the large glass windows that are a hallmark of modern architecture.
The expansive windows wrap around the corners to let the light pour into the interior from multiple sides. Rather than incorporating the garage front and center like many contemporary homes, the home has a simple walkway to its stylish asymmetrical front entrance (the garage is located to the side of the home).

A beautiful exterior transformation. A traditional brick and timber Tudor reimagined in all white. Black windows add fine contrast. 4-lite casement windows increase the visible light. Photography by Aaron Usher III. Instagram: @redhousedesignbuild
