Arbordale Landscaping
Stepping stones in a minimal gravel paved area lead past two lounge chairs to the intimate dining area. The herringbone-patterned limestone patio dissipates into a lush planting bed filled with loose swaths of shade-loving perennials and seasonal bulbs. Beech hedging, and formal clipped evergreens, surround the space and provide privacy, structure and winter interest to the garden. On axis to the main interior living space of the home, the fountain, is the focal point of the garden. A limestone water wall featuring an engraved pattern of fallen Honey Locust leaves nods to the centrally located mature Honey Locust tree that anchors the garden. Water, flowing down the wall, falls a short distance into a pool with a submerged limestone panel. The light noise of the falling water helps soften the sounds of the bustling downtown neighbourhood, creating a tranquil back drop for living and entertaining.

Soft colourful plantings along the pathway, seasonal interest begins in early spring and the planting is still colourful in late summer. Less than a year old the planting was installed last October 2019 and now in August, it looks like it has always been there.

Variable height, rustic stands topped with steel planters containing drought-resistant vegetation. Surrounded by a gravel bed containing further low water plants. Complete installation resists weed infestation and requires little maintenance. The entire garden is separated from grass by subtle steel retainers for easier lawn care.
Think Outside Gardens
This small courtyard was transformed from an ugly rundown mess into a peaceful and intimate oasis. Faced with the challenge of an area no bigger than 3 x 5m, a custom made floating concrete bench flows from inside to out maximising space for entertaining. Layers of contrasting tropical planting provide a lush green backdrop – a true urban jungle. A burst of unexpected yellow in furnishings, careful selection of feature plants in contemporary pots and the addition of a giant clam shell complete the space and add to its fresh modern appeal.

A shady front yard paver patio in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle under a large Sequoia tree. Corten steel planters with Creeping Jenny and Carex spilling over. The steel gas firepit brings warmth to the seating area wrapped by a cedar built-in bench.

Connected to the walk-out basement, this paver patio living room and spa is the perfect place to unwind. Sinking the hot tub into the ground improves access, flow, and sight lines. Phantom screens can be pulled down to keep out mosquitos and flies. Look out at the verdant evergreens, or draw the curtains for more privacy.
