An imposing heritage oak and fountain frame a strong central axis leading from the motor court to the front door, through a grand stair hall into the public spaces of this Italianate home designed for entertaining, out to the gardens and finally terminating at the pool and semi-circular columned cabana. Gracious terraces and formal interiors characterize this stately home.

This client wanted to experience Santa Fe in Sierra Madre. Challenges were the steep hillside lot, great views, fire concerns and narrow car access. We created a rustic home with a low profile, lush surroundings and an air of quiet tranquility. This rustic southwestern house uses reclaimed vegas and logs for the structural system and asphalt emulsion mud adobe walls for the finish. The house is like an adobe village separated into four structures connected by verandas, courtyards and log bridges. Crisp-Pix Photography - Chris Considine

We had to re-address many areas of terrible stucco patchwork, and repair cracks from house shifting over the last 90 years. We used contrasting browns and tans on the trim and windows to allow the house to shine from its former days. We also gutted and re-built the rear addition (which was previously made of a recalled siding,) we re-built it with corrugated metal siding and a huge corner window that we found at a home re-store. The birds of paradise my husband planted along the side of the house filled in the blank space between the house and the driveway. Photo Credit: San Antonio Board of Realtors/ Sunny Harris

Additionally, we had to shell out big bucks (as most homeowners have experienced) for a new roof. The previous roof had damage, and was also gray in color. We opted for a black dimensional shingle, added a ridge vent. The money we spent was well worth it. Photo Credit: San Antonio Board of Realtors/ Sunny Harris
