Flatiron Window Fashions
This Boulder, Colorado client was looking for a way to have plantation shutters without covering the existing trim. Typically shutters are installed with frames and pre-installed hinges.
Flatiron Window Fashions installed direct mount shutters to allowing the shutter panels to blend into the existing trim work detail.
These shutter panels show 3 1/2" louvers, add-on invisible tilt feature, and centered divider rails. Panels with astragal closure and wide single panels.

This is the closet in that second guest room, now a living space, that we converted into a guest office. We removed the doors, added the desk and installed a flat screen that is out of site except when you are seated on the sofa or in the chair, visible but invisible. Sleek modern look with brushed nickel accents continued.

Remodeling and adding on to a classic pristine 1960’s ranch home is a challenging opportunity. Our clients were clear that their own sense of style should take precedence, but also wanted to honor the home’s spirit. Our solution left the original home as intact as possible and created a linear element that serves as a threshold from old to new. The steel “spine” fulfills the owners’ desire for a dynamic contemporary environment, and sets the tone for the addition. The original kidney pool retains its shape inside the new outline of a spacious rectangle. At the owner’s request each space has a “little surprise” or interesting detail.

Created for the hip city dweller, we designed a funky pad to reflect their style. Bold prints and bright, colorful accents complement the sophisticated shapes of the furnishings used throughout. The office was designed with a daybed so the space gets double use as both an office, and a respite for out of town guests.

Just enough elbow room so that the kids truly have their own space to spread out and study. We didn't have an inkling about Covid-19 when we were planning this space, but WOW...what a life-saver it has been in times of quarantine, distance learning, and beyond! Mixing budget items (i.e.Ikea) with custom details can often be a great use of resources when configuring a space - not everything has to be "designer label" to look good and function well.

Sometimes a project starts with a statement piece. The inspiration and centrepiece for this apartment was a pendant light sourced from France. The Vertigo Light is reminiscent of a ladies’ racing day hat, so the drama and glamour of a day at the races was the inspiration for all other design decisions. I used colour to create drama, with rich, deep hues offset with more neutral greys to add layers of interest and occasional moments of wow.
The floor – another bespoke element – combines functionality with visual appeal to meet the brief of having a sense of walking on clouds, while functionally disguising pet hair.
Storage was an essential part in this renovation and clever solutions were identified for each room. Apartment living always brings some storage constraints, so achieving space saving solutions with efficient design is key to success.
Rotating the kitchen achieved the open floor plan requested, and brought light and views into every room, opening the main living area to create a wonderful sense of space.
A juxtaposition of lineal design and organic shapes has resulted in a dramatic inner city apartment with a sense of warmth and homeliness that resonated with the clients.

A photographer’s home office is the theme of this work/bedroom. The lens of a vintage camera printed on a mural is the focal point of this room serving as the backdrop for a functional sofa bed. Textured wall paper in a medium grey color keeps the scheme neutral. The coil ceiling fixtures adds modernism and illumination to this room where the “old” and the “new” blend naturally. A modern white lacquer desk with storage above provides a functional working area in this space that can easily be converted into a guest bedroom.
