The Kipling house is a new addition to the Montrose neighborhood. Designed for a family of five, it allows for generous open family zones oriented to large glass walls facing the street and courtyard pool. The courtyard also creates a buffer between the master suite and the children's play and bedroom zones. The master suite echoes the first floor connection to the exterior, with large glass walls facing balconies to the courtyard and street. Fixed wood screens provide privacy on the first floor while a large sliding second floor panel allows the street balcony to exchange privacy control with the study. Material changes on the exterior articulate the zones of the house and negotiate structural loads.

Aoba Landscapes
A modern, contemporary space to relax and entertain that had plenty of space for a young family to play safely.

Rock outcroppings make a striking background for new lounge areas in this compact Los Angeles hillside garden. Working with the attributes of the site, we added native plants to drape over the stone, and converted hollowed stone planters into a firepit and water feature. New built-in seating and a cozy hammock complete the relaxing space, and dramatic lighting makes it come alive at night.

Exterior Worlds Landscaping & Design
Incorporating metals into the landscape design adds clean lines and a touch of modern that flows from inside the home to the outside, creating a cohesive space.

This garden was designed to celebrate panoramic views of the San Gabriel mountains. Horizontal bands of slate tile from the interior of the mid-century home wrap around the house’s perimeter and extend to the rear pool area, inviting the family outdoors. With a pool framed by mature trees, a sunken seating area, fruit trees, and a modest lawn for a young family, the landscape provides a wide range of opportunities for play, entertaining and relaxation. This modern yet rustic design is set in Calgary's southwest community of Spring Valley. The front retaining wall and planting scheme perfectly match the architecture of the house. The no maintenance deck offers spacious seating areas and the wood burning fireplace gives this yard a sense of rugged mountain charm with a touch of chic city sophistication. The retaining walls and multi-level planting, play and seating areas give the added privacy that homeowners desire without the sense of being closed in.
