Adding a level of organic nature to his work, C.P. Drewett used wood to calm the architecture down on this contemporary house and make it more elegant. A wood ceiling and custom furnishings with walnut bases and tapered legs suit the muted tones of the living room. This remodel of an existing fireplace features a handcrafted Venetian plaster surround in the style of polished concrete. A blackened metal mantel is the perfect place to display small contemporary drawings and sculptures. Handmade pottery and stacked firewood bring warmth and coziness to the pared down, minimalist space. Photo credit: Michael Biondo

When yearning for a wee bit of sunshine, this couple ventures over from the East Coast to soak it all up in their La Jolla condo. Trying this city on for size, this project was an experiment in going a bit outside the client's comfort zone, as they wanted something more modern in style than what they are accustomed to while keeping with the neutral and timeless colors they are so fond of.

Ventless ethanol Burner, Home Fireplace: Fashion Takes Over the Home The advent of the Fireplace permitting us to bring fire into the home has allowed man to enjoy heat, light, and hot food going back to cave men. Now fast forward to current times, and while we still require heat, light and food – more modern technologies provide these requirements efficiently and conveniently. However the concept of a fireplace and our connection to fire remains.
