Haven Design and ConstructionThe cozy Mid Century Modern family room features an original stacked stone fireplace and exposed ceiling beams. The bright and open space provides the perfect entertaining area for friends and family. A glimpse into the adjacent kitchen reveals walnut barstools and a striking mix of kitchen cabinet colors in deep blue and walnut.
The Artisans Group, Inc.Winner of the 2018 Tour of Homes Best Remodel, this whole house re-design of a 1963 Bennet & Johnson mid-century raised ranch home is a beautiful example of the magic we can weave through the application of more sustainable modern design principles to existing spaces.
We worked closely with our client on extensive updates to create a modernized MCM gem.
Extensive alterations include:
- a completely redesigned floor plan to promote a more intuitive flow throughout
- vaulted the ceilings over the great room to create an amazing entrance and feeling of inspired openness
- redesigned entry and driveway to be more inviting and welcoming as well as to experientially set the mid-century modern stage
- the removal of a visually disruptive load bearing central wall and chimney system that formerly partitioned the homes’ entry, dining, kitchen and living rooms from each other
- added clerestory windows above the new kitchen to accentuate the new vaulted ceiling line and create a greater visual continuation of indoor to outdoor space
- drastically increased the access to natural light by increasing window sizes and opening up the floor plan
- placed natural wood elements throughout to provide a calming palette and cohesive Pacific Northwest feel
- incorporated Universal Design principles to make the home Aging In Place ready with wide hallways and accessible spaces, including single-floor living if needed
- moved and completely redesigned the stairway to work for the home’s occupants and be a part of the cohesive design aesthetic
- mixed custom tile layouts with more traditional tiling to create fun and playful visual experiences
- custom designed and sourced MCM specific elements such as the entry screen, cabinetry and lighting
- development of the downstairs for potential future use by an assisted living caretaker
- energy efficiency upgrades seamlessly woven in with much improved insulation, ductless mini splits and solar gain
Truss Interiors & RenovationsA bright sitting area in Mid-century inspired remodel. The 2 armchairs covered in grey and white patterned fabric create a striking focal point against the green grasscloth covered walls. An oversized terracotta planter holds natural branches for decoration. The large standing light with white circular lamp shade brings soft light to the area at nights while slatted wooden blinds keep the direct sunlight at bay during the day.
Cathie Hong InteriorsThis artistic and design-forward family approached us at the beginning of the pandemic with a design prompt to blend their love of midcentury modern design with their Caribbean roots. With her parents originating from Trinidad & Tobago and his parents from Jamaica, they wanted their home to be an authentic representation of their heritage, with a midcentury modern twist. We found inspiration from a colorful Trinidad & Tobago tourism poster that they already owned and carried the tropical colors throughout the house — rich blues in the main bathroom, deep greens and oranges in the powder bathroom, mustard yellow in the dining room and guest bathroom, and sage green in the kitchen. This project was featured on Dwell in January 2022.
Studio CatoirLe film culte de 1955 avec Cary Grant et Grace Kelly "To Catch a Thief" a été l'une des principales source d'inspiration pour la conception de cet appartement glamour en duplex près de Milan. Le Studio Catoir a eu carte blanche pour la conception et l'esthétique de l'appartement. Tous les meubles, qu'ils soient amovibles ou intégrés, sont signés Studio Catoir, la plupart sur mesure, de même que les cheminées, la menuiserie, les poignées de porte et les tapis. Un appartement plein de caractère et de personnalité, avec des touches ludiques et des influences rétro dans certaines parties de l'appartement.

Just the Thing Decorating, Staging, and WindowsThe family who has owned this home for twenty years was ready for modern update! Concrete floors were restained and cedar walls were kept intact, but kitchen was completely updated with high end appliances and sleek cabinets, and brand new furnishings were added to showcase the couple's favorite things.

Fran Kerzner- DESIGN SYNTHESISThey needed new custom cabinetry to accommodate their new 75" flat screen so we worked with the cabinetry and AV vendors to design a unit that would encompass all of the AV plus display and storage extending all the way to the window seat.
The clients also wanted to be able to eat dinner in the room while watching TV but there was no room for a regular dining table so we designed a custom silver leaf bar table to sit behind the sectional with a custom 1 1/2" Thinkglass art glass top.
We designed a new coffered ceiling with lighting in each bay. And built out the fireplace with dimensional tile to the ceiling.
The color scheme was kept intentionally monochromatic to show off the different textures with the only color being touches of blue in the pillows and accessories to pick up the art glass.
