This view reveals the primary public spaces of the residence which have a raised ceiling and clerestory windows. At bottom of photo shows a block enclosed utility area which holds pool utilities, recycling and trash. Visible at rear of residence , the use of "outrigger" style steel beams that project away from edge of roof line, these reference classic mid century architecture and add a quality of lightness to the structure. The roof was purposely kept as free from any utilities as possible enhancing the views of the structure from above. More images on our website: http://www.romero-obeji-interiordesign.com

‘Oh What A Ceiling!’ ingeniously transformed a tired mid-century brick veneer house into a suburban oasis for a multigenerational family. Our clients, Gabby and Peter, came to us with a desire to reimagine their ageing home such that it could better cater to their modern lifestyles, accommodate those of their adult children and grandchildren, and provide a more intimate and meaningful connection with their garden. The renovation would reinvigorate their home and allow them to re-engage with their passions for cooking and sewing, and explore their skills in the garden and workshop.

In considerable contrast to predominately neo-traditional neighboring residences employing 6 or more exterior materials in willy nilly fashion, Hillside's facades present a minimalist palette of stone, wood and glass which, while welcoming and accessible, reinforces the essential design precept of "organically" blending construction into the natural contours of the site, Photo: Fredrik Brauer
