Maida Vale Apartment in Photos: A Visual Journey Tucked away in the serene enclave of Maida Vale, London, lies an apartment that stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of eclectic modern design and traditional elegance, masterfully brought to life by Jolanta Cajzer of Studio 212. This transformative journey from a conventional space to a breathtaking interior is vividly captured through the lens of the acclaimed photographer, Tom Kurek, and further accentuated by the vibrant artworks of Kris Cieslak. The apartment's architectural canvas showcases tall ceilings and a layout that features two cozy bedrooms alongside a lively, light-infused living room. The design ethos, carefully curated by Jolanta Cajzer, revolves around the infusion of bright colors and the strategic placement of mirrors. This thoughtful combination not only magnifies the sense of space but also bathes the apartment in a natural light that highlights the meticulous attention to detail in every corner. Furniture selections strike a perfect harmony between the vivacity of modern styles and the grace of classic elegance. Artworks in bold hues stand in conversation with timeless timber and leather, creating a rich tapestry of textures and styles. The inclusion of soft, plush furnishings, characterized by their modern lines and chic curves, adds a layer of comfort and contemporary flair, inviting residents and guests alike into a warm embrace of stylish living. Central to the living space, Kris Cieslak's artworks emerge as focal points of colour and emotion, bridging the gap between the tangible and the imaginative. Featured prominently in both the living room and bedroom, these paintings inject a dynamic vibrancy into the apartment, mirroring the life and energy of Maida Vale itself. The art pieces not only complement the interior design but also narrate a story of inspiration and creativity, making the apartment a living gallery of modern artistry. Photographed with an eye for detail and a sense of spatial harmony, Tom Kurek's images capture the essence of the Maida Vale apartment. Each photograph is a window into a world where design, art, and light converge to create an ambience that is both visually stunning and deeply comforting. This Maida Vale apartment is more than just a living space; it's a showcase of how contemporary design, when intertwined with artistic expression and captured through skilled photography, can create a home that is both a sanctuary and a source of inspiration. It stands as a beacon of style, functionality, and artistic collaboration, offering a warm welcome to all who enter. This long space needed flexibility above all else. As frequent hosts to their extended family, we made sure there was plenty of seating to go around, but also met their day-to-day needs with intimate groupings. Much like the kitchen, the family room strikes a balance between the warm brick tones of the fireplace and the handsome green wall finish. Not wanting to miss an opportunity for spunk, we introduced an intricate geometric pattern onto the accent wall giving us a perfect backdrop for the clean lines of the mid-century inspired furniture pieces.

We are Dexign Matter, an award-winning studio sought after for crafting multi-layered interiors that we expertly curated to fulfill individual design needs. Design Director Zoe Lee’s passion for customization is evident in this city residence where she melds the elevated experience of luxury hotels with a soft and inviting atmosphere that feels welcoming. Lee’s panache for artful contrasts pairs the richness of strong materials, such as oak and porcelain, with the sophistication of contemporary silhouettes. “The goal was to create a sense of indulgence and comfort, making every moment spent in the homea truly memorable one,” says Lee. By enlivening a once-predominantly white colour scheme with muted hues and tactile textures, Lee was able to impart a characterful countenance that still feels comfortable. She relied on subtle details to ensure this is a residence infused with softness. “The carefully placed and concealed LED light strips throughout create a gentle and ambient illumination,” says Lee. “They conjure a warm ambiance, while adding a touch of modernity.” Further finishes include a Shaker feature wall in the living room. It extends seamlessly to the room’s double-height ceiling, adding an element of continuity and establishing a connection with the primary ensuite’s wood panelling. “This integration of design elements creates a cohesive and visually appealing atmosphere,” Lee says. The ensuite’s dramatically veined marble-look is carried from the walls to the countertop and even the cabinet doors. “This consistent finish serves as another unifying element, transforming the individual components into a captivating feature wall. It adds an elegant touch to the overall aesthetic of the space.” Pops of black hardware throughout channel that elegance and feel welcoming. Lee says, “The furnishings’ unique characteristics and visual appeal contribute to a sense of continuous luxury – it is now a home that is both bespoke and wonderfully beckoning.”

SDA ArchitectsSDA Architects
After the second fallout of the Delta Variant amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic in mid 2021, our team working from home, and our client in quarantine, SDA Architects conceived Japandi Home. The initial brief for the renovation of this pool house was for its interior to have an "immediate sense of serenity" that roused the feeling of being peaceful. Influenced by loneliness and angst during quarantine, SDA Architects explored themes of escapism and empathy which led to a “Japandi” style concept design – the nexus between “Scandinavian functionality” and “Japanese rustic minimalism” to invoke feelings of “art, nature and simplicity.” This merging of styles forms the perfect amalgamation of both function and form, centred on clean lines, bright spaces and light colours. Grounded by its emotional weight, poetic lyricism, and relaxed atmosphere; Japandi Home aesthetics focus on simplicity, natural elements, and comfort; minimalism that is both aesthetically pleasing yet highly functional. Japandi Home places special emphasis on sustainability through use of raw furnishings and a rejection of the one-time-use culture we have embraced for numerous decades. A plethora of natural materials, muted colours, clean lines and minimal, yet-well-curated furnishings have been employed to showcase beautiful craftsmanship – quality handmade pieces over quantitative throwaway items. A neutral colour palette compliments the soft and hard furnishings within, allowing the timeless pieces to breath and speak for themselves. These calming, tranquil and peaceful colours have been chosen so when accent colours are incorporated, they are done so in a meaningful yet subtle way. Japandi home isn’t sparse – it’s intentional. The integrated storage throughout – from the kitchen, to dining buffet, linen cupboard, window seat, entertainment unit, bed ensemble and walk-in wardrobe are key to reducing clutter and maintaining the zen-like sense of calm created by these clean lines and open spaces. The Scandinavian concept of “hygge” refers to the idea that ones home is your cosy sanctuary. Similarly, this ideology has been fused with the Japanese notion of “wabi-sabi”; the idea that there is beauty in imperfection. Hence, the marriage of these design styles is both founded on minimalism and comfort; easy-going yet sophisticated. Conversely, whilst Japanese styles can be considered “sleek” and Scandinavian, “rustic”, the richness of the Japanese neutral colour palette aids in preventing the stark, crisp palette of Scandinavian styles from feeling cold and clinical. Japandi Home’s introspective essence can ultimately be considered quite timely for the pandemic and was the quintessential lockdown project our team needed.
