This fireplace was once surrounded by a blue checkered tile that took away from the beautiful Moroccan tile in the center of the surround. We encased the tile with stone so that we did not disrupt the structure of the tile and brought more attention to the delicate design. The rondel collection was hand blown and we selected the colors of the glass to coordinate with the space. Michael Hunter Photography

A large, gracious family room with tall windows makes this a wonderful place to hang out with the family. A mixture of light and darker woods on the furniture blends with the light and dark tones of the walls and woodwork. The carved column in the foreground is made of travertine. In Piedmont, on a winding, secluded, tree-lined street, atop a thoughtfully-landscaped hill sits a large, stately residence. The challenge: How to merge the tastes and lifestyles of the new owners, a vibrant, young family, while maintaining harmony with the soul of their new, old home. This is a type of client we love: people who have the heart and reverence for architectural stewardship combined with the desire to live authentically. To achieve this goal, we retained and restored many original details, like the ceiling in the living room, the drapery hardware and lighting sconces, and we found modern fixtures and furnishings that played well with the classic style. The client already had this beautiful wood horse sculpture so we sourced a pedestal to elevate it and make it a focal point when entering the house. An organic shaped white chandelier illuminates the room from above while the square ottoman, which was once covered in the same fabric as the navy pillows, is now covered in faux leather and adds a needed lightness to the space.
