New contruction home that offers flat-gray tones throughout the house. It has a contempary look, but almost feels transitional with the neutral colors and gray furniture. It's very sleek and eye-catching when walking from room to room. Fireplace features gray tile surround in kitchen and living room. Fireplace mantel on both sides. Photos by Chad Nelson

Builder: Falcon Custom Homes Interior Designer: Mary Burns - Gallery Photographer: Mike Buck A perfectly proportioned story and a half cottage, the Farfield is full of traditional details and charm. The front is composed of matching board and batten gables flanking a covered porch featuring square columns with pegged capitols. A tour of the rear façade reveals an asymmetrical elevation with a tall living room gable anchoring the right and a low retractable-screened porch to the left. Inside, the front foyer opens up to a wide staircase clad in horizontal boards for a more modern feel. To the left, and through a short hall, is a study with private access to the main levels public bathroom. Further back a corridor, framed on one side by the living rooms stone fireplace, connects the master suite to the rest of the house. Entrance to the living room can be gained through a pair of openings flanking the stone fireplace, or via the open concept kitchen/dining room. Neutral grey cabinets featuring a modern take on a recessed panel look, line the perimeter of the kitchen, framing the elongated kitchen island. Twelve leather wrapped chairs provide enough seating for a large family, or gathering of friends. Anchoring the rear of the main level is the screened in porch framed by square columns that match the style of those found at the front porch. Upstairs, there are a total of four separate sleeping chambers. The two bedrooms above the master suite share a bathroom, while the third bedroom to the rear features its own en suite. The fourth is a large bunkroom above the homes two-stall garage large enough to host an abundance of guests.

An already gorgeous mid-century modern home gave a great base for starting this stunning project. The old lanai was in perfect condition with its screened in room and terrazzo floors. But, St. Louis being what it is, the room wasn’t getting as much use as it could. The homeowners had an idea to remove the interior walls that separated the main home and the lanai to create additional living space when they entertain or have a movie night as family. The exterior screens were taken out and replaced with new windows and screens to update the look and protect the room from outdoor elements. The old skylights were removed and replaced with 7 new skylights with solar shades to let the light in or block the suns warmth come summers’ heat. The interior doorways and walls were removed and replaced with structural beams and supports so that we could leave the space as open and airy as possible. Keeping the original flooring in both rooms we were able to insert new wood to seamlessly match the old in the spaces where walls once stood. The highlight of this home is the fireplace. We took a single fireplace and created a double-sided gas fireplace. Now the family can enjoy a warm fire from both sides of the house. .

Artwork: Blue Mood I & II Painting is my passion…I love to create artwork that evokes a moment and creating a painting I’d love to see in a particular space by allowing myself to become involved with its proposed setting. I am influenced by color and work with it employing a keen sensitivity with regards to how it relates to interior spaces and how those spaces makes one feel.

The Tomar Court remodel was a whole home remodel focused on creating an open floor plan on the main level that is optimal for entertaining. By removing the walls separating the formal dining, formal living, kitchen and stair hallway, the main level was transformed into one spacious, open room. Throughout the main level, a custom white oak flooring was used. A three sided, double glass fireplace is the main feature in the new living room. The existing staircase was integrated into the kitchen island with a custom wall panel detail to match the kitchen cabinets. Off of the living room is the sun room with new floor to ceiling windows and all updated finishes. Tucked behind the sun room is a cozy hearth room. In the hearth room features a new gas fireplace insert, new stone, mitered edge limestone hearth, live edge black walnut mantle and a wood feature wall. Off of the kitchen, the mud room was refreshed with all new cabinetry, new tile floors, updated powder bath and a hidden pantry off of the kitchen. In the master suite, a new walk in closet was created and a feature wood wall for the bed headboard with floating shelves and bedside tables. In the master bath, a walk in tile shower , separate floating vanities and a free standing tub were added. In the lower level of the home, all flooring was added throughout and the lower level bath received all new cabinetry and a walk in tile shower. To better define the living room and new dining space created in the front bay window, we designed a 3-sided fireplace that was detailed with the perfect mix of traditional moldings and contemporary floating wood hearth. A new window inserted into the corner of the living room creates a cozy, dramatic scene.

This space was updated with new lighting and furniture. We worked with the existing flooring, wall color and fireplace that the client had recently renovated. The space was balanced out using warm and cool colors, pattern and texture to work with the existing finishes.
