Lincoln Park Townhouse Master Bath
This client Chicago town-house client didn’t need two bathtubs in matching upstairs and downstairs bathrooms so they decided to remove the oversized tub from the “master” and put in an oversized shower instead. They wanted a clean look that was somewhat modern, yet not trendy. Most importantly, they did not want a bathroom that looked like it could have been their parents – they were adamant about that. They also had a tight budget, so we couldn’t splurge on luxury materials or specialty items. But, they did want more storage than they currently had, but it had to be configured differently and become a design element. So, we got to work, and this is what we came up with. All the tiles are porcelain except for the decorative strip in the center of the back wall of the shower – an amber stone mosaic that we found at an outlet store. We would have like to have gone with a frameless glass enclosure, but the budget didn’t allow it. Where we did spend money was on the custom vanity, medicine cabinet and set of three storage “boxes” hung over the toilet – all from our custom shop, all in Espresso stained Birch. The countertop is from our favorite manufacturer, CaesarStone, Polished Pebble. The sink is the Kohler Ladena (you just can’t go wrong with Kohler), and the plumbing fixtures from Grohe.
