Leicht by Vogue Kitchens - Contemporary Basement Kitchen in Edwardian Townhouse

As part of a whole house refurbishment project, the owner had the former cellar of a four-storey Edwardian house redeveloped for use as a luxury basement kitchen with additional utility area. The previous kitchen had been located on the ground floor of the property, which was converted to another living space. The house is the permanent London-base of a widely-travelled investment professional who collects fine wine. The kitchen was designed to incorporate an under-stair glass-fronted contemporary wine cellar, while the design brief included another wine cooling cabinet to be installed within the kitchen layout. Using furniture by premium German brand, Leicht, Sharan Johal creative director at Vogue Kitchens designed a large functional kitchen island with undercounter units in platinum. This a as located in front of the basement window to make use of all available light during the day and while cooking on the flush-mounted gas hob. A grey satin worktop by Neolith was used throughout the surface areas, and was extended on one side of the island to accommodate informal seating beneath. Sharan designed a long sink run on one side wall with pale grey concrete cabinets overhead and undercounter units that led to a tall cabinet to accommodate the wine cooler. Grey glass splashbacks were used, again to reflect the light and the cabinetry was underlit and top lit with LED’s to create an ambient atmosphere at night. Facing the other side of the island, further tall concrete units were designed to accommodate a Liebherr full height larder fridge and freezer and to house a bank of four ovens by Miele. A remote controlled recirculation ceiling extractor by Gutmann is installed overhead, also with lighting incorporated. The project to six weeks to install.
