A large family kitchen which flows perfectly into the new orangery. Designed using a variety of tactile surfaces including stone and wood. With a 3.5 metres long central island with unusual curved steps between the surfaces, it defines the space and is practical for incorporating storage, food preparation areas and is a wonderful focus for gathering people. There is also a walk in larder with marble surfaces for appliances and food storage.

Located on the dramatic North Cornwall coast and within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the clients for this remarkable contemporary family home shared our genuine passion for sustainability, the environment and ecology. One of the first Hempcrete block buildings in Cornwall, the dwelling’s unique approach to sustainability employs the latest technologies and philosophies whilst utilising traditional building methods and techniques. Wherever practicable the building has been designed to be ‘cement-free’ and environmentally considerate, with the overriding ambition to have the capacity to be ‘off-grid’. Wood-fibre boarding was used for the internal walls along with eco-cork insulation and render boards. Lime render and plaster throughout complete the finish. Externally, there are concrete-free substrates to all external landscaping and a natural pool surrounded by planting of native species aids the diverse ecology and environment throughout the site. A ground Source Heat Pump provides hot water and central heating in conjunction with a PV array with associated battery storage. Photographs: Stephen Brownhill

This traditional in-frame kitchen features beaded shaker style doors painted in Farrow & Ball's De Nimes. The island is painted in a contrasting Stiffkey Blue and is finished either end with feature end panels and pilasters. There is also room for seating. This kitchen features lots of clever storage solutions, including larder cabinets with pull out trays, concealed bins and integrated appliances. We have made use of every bit of space by inserting a pull-out system in the corner base unit, and cupboards above the American-style fridge freezer and underneath the seating area on the island. We also put hidden cutlery drawers inside the deep pan drawers.

A bespoke, handmade Shaker style kitchen with ‘in-frame’ mortice and tennon doors fitted on traditional butt hinges. This luxurious kitchen features Oak dovetailed and polished drawer boxes on soft-close concealed runners and a solid rigid carcass in polished Oak, except for the pantry unit that is in rich Walnut. The island units and Utility room have been factory painted in Library by Plimsoll and all other units are factory painted in Bone China Blue (Pale) from Little Greene Paint & Paper. All pull handles and knobs are in an Old Pewter finish, to co-ordinate with the Bosch appliances, whilst the brassware is by Quooker and Hans Grohe. Situated in the wooded hills of Orinda lies an old home with great potential. Ridgecrest Designs turned an outdated kitchen into a jaw-dropping space fit for a contemporary art gallery. To give an artistic urban feel we commissioned a local artist to paint a textured "warehouse wall" on the tallest wall of the kitchen. Four skylights allow natural light to shine down and highlight the warehouse wall. Bright white glossy cabinets with hints of white oak and black accents pop on a light landscape. Real Turkish limestone covers the floor in a random pattern for an old-world look in an otherwise ultra-modern space.
