Langdale House

This was a unique opportunity to renovate a substantial four bedroom detached traditional Lakeland property. The property was traditionally constructed in the 1930s from naturally split rough Lakeland slate from the local Elterwater quarry and was tightly roofed with dressed green Westmorland slate. The brief for this 1930s house was to maintain the character of the house and garden, whilst upgrading the look and feel of the spaces to create a modern home, with room for family and friends to stay. The house benefits from some of the most fantastic views the Lake District has to offer. In order to make the most of these we replaced all the windows, and in some cases expanded the existing windows and French doors. The fabulous views of Langdale Pikes from the Western Gable were brought to the fore with floor to ceiling square windows in both the living room and master bedroom. Internally the house required a full insulation upgrade and was dry lined throughout. The electrical, plumbing and heating systems were replaced and upgraded to modern standards. The new slate floors, locally produced Herdwick carpets combined with a carefully chosen lighting scheme lifted the interiors. Externally, a low stone walling edge to the south western terrace was designed to a view point with seating around a fire pit. A thoroughly modern family home has been produced where the fabulous 360 degree views of the Langdale Valley may be enjoyed for many years to come.
