Down-to-studs remodel and second floor addition. The original house was a simple plain ranch house with a layout that didn’t function well for the family. We changed the house to a contemporary Mediterranean with an eclectic mix of details. Space was limited by City Planning requirements so an important aspect of the design was to optimize every bit of space, both inside and outside. The living space extends out to functional places in the back and front yards: a private shaded back yard and a sunny seating area in the front yard off the kitchen where neighbors can easily mingle with the family. A Japanese bath off the master bedroom upstairs overlooks a private roof deck which is screened from neighbors’ views by a trellis with plants growing from planter boxes and with lanterns hanging from a trellis above. This project was featured in Midwest Home magazine as the winner of ASID Life in Color. The addition of a kitchen with custom shaker-style cabinetry and a large shiplap island is perfect for entertaining and hosting events for family and friends. Quartz counters that mimic the look of marble were chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance. Open shelving with brass sconces above the sink create a focal point for the large open space. Putting a modern spin on the traditional nautical/coastal theme was a goal. We took the quintessential palette of navy and white and added pops of green, stylish patterns, and unexpected artwork to create a fresh bright space. Grasscloth on the back of the built in bookshelves and console table along with rattan and the bentwood side table add warm texture. Finishes and furnishings were selected with a practicality to fit their lifestyle and the connection to the outdoors. A large sectional along with the custom cocktail table in the living room area provide ample room for game night or a quiet evening watching movies with the kids. This beautiful contemporary dark grey kitchen was designed for a young professional family home in Clapham. Modern cabinetry and appliances were complimented with a traditional ceramic Belfast sink and floating shelves above to create a warm and inviting atmosphere to the interior. The island was framed in stone downstands at each end and a matching stone back panel , providing beautiful design detail to the overall look. Moroccan style tiles were used in the main kitchen area and in the rest of the room a wooden floor was laid. This beautifully designed kitchen is still very practical and the large double utility cupboard on the right houses the boiler, washing machine and dryer

The desired aesthetic was for a contemporary, industrial look which echoed the rest of the house design. This was cleverly achieved by combining cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball Purbeck Stone with a stainless steel wrapped appliance housing, which incorporates ovens and integrated fridge. Arenastone Grigio Concreto was chosen for the worktops providing the look of concrete but in a more durable material, building on the industrial theme. The Olney Manor is a historic property sitting on a beautiful 7 acre estate and surely provided some interesting design challenges while our design team worked with the Brown family on their home from the 1930's. To unify 400 square feet of kitchen and morning room seating space the team re-configured a structural opening and fireplace to create a beautiful stone wall with floating gas insert as the feature wall for the kitchen. Tasteful two tone painted cabinets with a cherry island and breakfast table created a great traditional and French country style melding that mirrored the classic elegance of the home. Our new clients lived in a charming Spanish-style house in the historic Larchmont area of Los Angeles. Their kitchen, which was obviously added later, was devoid of style and desperately needed a makeover. While they wanted the latest in appliances they did want their new kitchen to go with the style of their house. The en trend choices of patterned floor tile and blue cabinets were the catalysts for pulling the whole look together.
