Simon Taylor FurnitureSimon Taylor Furniture was commissioned to undertake the full refurbishment of an existing kitchen space in a Victorian railway cottage in a small village, near Aylesbury. The clients were seeking a light, bright traditional Shaker kitchen that would include plenty of storage and seating for two people. In addition to removing the old kitchen, they also laid a new floor using 60 x60cm floor tiles in Lakestone Ivory Matt by Minoli, prior to installing the new kitchen.
All cabinetry was handmade at the Simon Taylor Furniture cabinet workshop in Bierton, near Aylesbury, and it was handpainted in Skimming Stone by Farrow & Ball. The Shaker design includes cot bead frames with Ovolo bead moulding on the inner edge of each door, with tongue and groove panelling in the peninsula recess and as end panels to add contrast. Above the tall cabinetry and overhead cupboards is the Simon Taylor Furniture classic cornice to the ceiling. All internal carcases and dovetail drawer boxes are made of oak, with open shelving in oak as an accent detail. The white window pelmets feature the same Ovolo design with LED lighting at the base, and were also handmade at the workshop. The worktops and upstands, featured throughout the kitchen, are made from 20mm thick quartz with a double pencil edge in Vicenza by CRL Stone.
The working kitchen area was designed in an L-shape with a wet run beneath the main feature window and the cooking run against an internal wall. The wet run includes base cabinets for bins and utility items in addition to a 60cm integrated dishwasher by Siemens with deep drawers to one side. At the centre is a farmhouse sink by Villeroy & Boch with a dual lever mixer tap by Perrin & Rowe.
The overhead cabinetry for the cooking run includes three storage cupboards and a housing for a 45cm built-in Microwave by Siemens. The base cabinetry beneath includes two sets of soft-opening cutlery and storage drawers on either side of a Britannia range cooker that the clients already owned. Above the glass splashback is a concealed canopy hood, also by Siemens.
Intersecting the 16sq. metre space is a stylish curved peninsula with a tongue and grooved recess beneath the worktop that has space for two counter stools, a feature that was integral to the initial brief. At the curved end of the peninsula is a double-door crockery cabinet and on the wall above it are open shelves in oak, inset with LED downlights, next to a tall white radiator by Zehnder.
To the left of the peninsula is an integrated French Door fridge freezer by Fisher & Paykel on either side of two tall shallow cabinets, which are installed into a former doorway to a utility room, which now has a new doorway next to it. The cabinetry door fronts feature a broken façade to add further detail to this Shaker kitchen. Directly opposite the fridge freezer, the corner space next to doors that lead to the formal dining room now has a tall pantry larder with oak internal shelving and spice racks inside the double doors. All cup handles and ball knobs are by Hafele.
Searle & TaylorThis open plan handleless kitchen was designed for an architect, who drew the original plans for the layout as part of a contemporary new-build home project for him and his family. The new house has a very modern design with extensive use of glass throughout. The kitchen itself faces out to the garden with full-height panel doors with black surrounds that slide open entirely to bring the outside in during the summer months. To reflect the natural light, the Intuo kitchen furniture features polished glass door and drawer fronts in Lava and Fango colourways to complement the marble floor tiles that are also light-reflective.
We designed the kitchen to specification, with the main feature being a large T-shaped island in the 5.8m x 9m space. The concept behind the island’s shape was to have a full preparation and surface cooking space with the sink run behind it, while the length of the island would be used for dining and socialising, with bar stool seating in recesses on either side. Further soft-close drawers are on either side at the end. The raised Eternal Marfil worktop by Silestone is 80mm thick with square edging.
The preparation area is 3.2m wide and features a contrasting 20mm thick Eternal Marfil worktop with Shark’s nose edging to provide easy access to the stainless-steel recessed handle rails to the deep drawers at the front and sides of the island. At the centre is a Novy Panorama
PRO 90, with an integrated ventilation tower that rises when extraction is required and then retracts back into the hob’s surface when cooking has ended. For this reason, no overhead extraction was required for this kitchen. Directly beneath the hob are pull-out storage units and there are further deep drawers on either side for pans and plates.
To the left of the island are tall handleless glass-fronted cabinets within a 600mm recess, featuring a broom cupboard at one end and a Neff integrated fridge freezer at the other. A bank of Neff side-by-side cooking appliances make the central focus and include two single pyrolytic ovens, a combination microwave and an integrated coffee machine together with accessory drawers. Further storage cupboards are above and below each appliance.
The sink run is situated beneath a long rectangular picture window with a black metal surround. Directly above it is a run of glazed cabinets, all by Intuo, with black glass surrounds, with one double-height to the left of the window. The cabinets all store glassware and crockery and they are backlit to make a feature of them at night. Functional pull-out storage cupboards sit beneath the worktop, including pull-out bins, together with a 60cm integrated dishwasher on either side of the sink unit. An undermount single bowl and separate half bowl sink by Axixuno are all cladded in stone to match the pale walls and the tap is by Quooker.
The feature wall is painted in Caramel crunch by Dulux. The bar stools by Danetti were chosen by our client to complement this striking colour, and crockery was chosen to match. The pendant lights are taper by Franklite.

From traditional to modern, and everything in between, we love to design a broad spectrum. Here, we present a two-tone modern kitchen that has used materials in a fresh and eye-catching way. With a mix of finishes, it blends perfectly together to create a space that flows and is the pulsating heart of the home.
With the main cooking island and gorgeous prep wall, the cook has plenty of space to work. The second island is perfect for seating – the three materials interacting seamlessly, we have the main white material covering the cabinets, a short grey table for the kids, and a taller walnut top for adults to sit and stand while sipping some wine! I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend time in this kitchen?!
Cabinetry
With a tuxedo trend look, we used Cabico Elmwood New Haven door style, walnut vertical grain in a natural matte finish. The white cabinets over the sink are the Ventura MDF door in a White Diamond Gloss finish.
Countertops
The white counters on the perimeter and on both islands are from Caesarstone in a Frosty Carrina finish, and the added bar on the second countertop is a custom walnut top (made by the homeowner!) with a shorter seated table made from Caesarstone’s Raw Concrete.
Backsplash
The stone is from Marble Systems from the Mod Glam Collection, Blocks – Glacier honed, in Snow White polished finish, and added Brass.
Fixtures
A Blanco Precis Silgranit Cascade Super Single Bowl Kitchen Sink in White works perfect with the counters. A Waterstone transitional pulldown faucet in New Bronze is complemented by matching water dispenser, soap dispenser, and air switch. The cabinet hardware is from Emtek – their Trinity pulls in brass.
Appliances
The cooktop, oven, steam oven and dishwasher are all from Miele. The dishwashers are paneled with cabinetry material (left/right of the sink) and integrate seamlessly Refrigerator and Freezer columns are from SubZero and we kept the stainless look to break up the walnut some. The microwave is a counter sitting Panasonic with a custom wood trim (made by Cabico) and the vent hood is from Zephyr.

Our clients came in after thinking a long time about what to do with their kitchen – new cabinets or paint them, white kitchen or wood, custom or is semi-custom? All good questions to ask! They were committed to making this home for a while, they decided to do a full remodel. The kitchen was not living up to its potential both visually and functionally. The dark cabinets and countertop made the room feel dull. And the major drawback, a large corner pantry that was eating into the room, make it appear smaller than it was.
We started by ditching the corner pantry. It created a perfectly centered spot for the new professional range and made room for a much larger island that now houses a beverage center, microwave drawer, seating for three and tons of storage. The multi-generational family does a ton of cooking, so this kitchen gets used! We spent lots of time fine tuning the storage devices and planning where critical items would be stored. This included the new pantry area across from the refrigerator that houses small appliances and food staples.

European Kitchen CenterWorking on this modern kitchen design gave me great pleasure. Unique flat-panel door, integrated and paneled high-end appliances, quartz counters, lacquered and wood veneer finishes, are just a few attributes of this stunning kitchen. Many intricate details, handle-less design, ample modern storage, elevated this kitchen to be one of my favorites projects.

Kristin Lam InteriorsClean, contemporary white oak slab cabinets with a white Chroma Crystal White countertop. Cabinets are set off with sleek stainless steel handles. The appliances are also stainless steel. The diswasher is Bosch, the refridgerator is a Kenmore professional built-in, stainless steel. The hood is stainless and glass from Futuro, Venice model. The double oven is stainless steel from LG. The stainless wine cooler is Uline. the stainless steel built-in microwave is form GE. The irridescent glass back splash that sets off the floating bar cabinet and surrounds window is Vihara Irridescent 1 x 4 glass in Puka. Perfect for entertaining. The floors are Italian ceramic planks that look like hardwood in a driftwood color. Simply gorgeous. Lighting is recessed and kept to a minimum to maintain the crisp clean look the client was striving for. Simply Home DecoratingWhat comes to mind when you envision the perfect multi-faceted living spaces? Is it an expansive amount of counter space at which to cook, work, or entertain freely? Abundant and practical cabinet organization to keep clutter at bay and the space looking beautiful? Or perhaps the answer is all of the above, along with a cosy spot to retreat after the long day is complete.
The project we are sharing with you here has each of these elements in spades: spaces that combine beauty with function, promote comfort and relaxation, and make time at home enjoyable for this active family of three.
Our main focus was to remodel the kitchen, where we hoped to create a functional layout for everyday use. Our clients also hoped to incorporate a home office right into the kitchen itself.
However, the clients realized that renovation the kitchen alone wouldn’t create the full transformation they were looking for. Kitchens interact intimately with their adjacent spaces, especially family rooms, and we were determined to elevate their daily living experience from top to bottom.
We redesigned the kitchen and living area to increase work surfaces and storage solutions, create comfortable and luxurious spaces to unwind, and update the overall aesthetic to fit their more modern, collected taste. Here’s how it turned out…

История этого проекта не совсем обычна. Хозяева квартиры в Краснодаре – молодая семья с ребёнком. Только, встречи с дизайнерами и общение проходили только при участии главы семьи, так как покупка квартиры и сам процесс создания интерьера держались им в строгом секрете. «Наш заказчик хотел преподнести домочадцам роскошный сюрприз, поэтому семья не должна была ничего знать, - вспоминает Ярослав Алдошин. – При этом он максимально детально озвучил все свои предпочтения, что очень помогло нам при проектировании. Основной задачей стало создание лаконичного, технологичного пространства, с нестандартными объемными и конструктивными решениями. Никаких элементов классических стилей, все должно отвечать современным визуальным требованиям о дизайне».
Особенностью проекта стало объединение двух квартир площадью 73 и 58 кв. метров. У обоих квартир – хорошие исходные данные: панорамное остекление во всех жилых помещениях, минимальное количество несущих перегородок, высота 2,9 метра, расположение на 21 этаже, что обусловило великолепную изоляцию – комнаты буквально залиты светом. Из минусов: маленькая ванная и очень узкая, вытянутая хозяйская спальня. Для семейного времяпрепровождения дизайнеры организовали объединенную зону гостиной-кухни с большим кухонным островом, увеличили площадь ванной комнаты за счёт нежилой площади, тем самым получив дополнительное пространство для размещения большой душевой и ванны, а также предусмотрели детскую комнату. Недостатки спальни исправили с помощью расстановки мебели (кровать установили по длине комнаты, изголовьем к окну) и переносом стены глубь соседней детской. Благодаря этому, в помещении удалось получить комфортную, хорошо освещенную рабочую зону с полноценным письменным столом, а также установить системы хранения и макияжный столик. При выходе из спален ближайшее помещение — вместительная гардеробная (в ней хранится основной объем вещей), что очень удобно в плане эргономики: хозяевам не нужно метаться по квартире в поисках нужных вещей, на это уходит минимум времени. К слову, алгоритмы передвижения по квартире спроектированы так, что все пути жильцов ведут в гостиную, где каждый сможет заняться своими любимыми делами, от просмотра ТВ до кулинарных поединков и отдыха у камина с книгой в руках».
Интерьер построен на контрасте тёплых и холодных цветов, фактур и паттернов. Это создает необходимую динамику и наполняет пространство его смыслами. «Главной нашей задачей было создание тактильного контраста материалов, в котором современный человек нуждается не меньше, чем в цветовом и тональном разнообразии, - объясняет Ярослав, - Так, в общественной зоне мы использовали природные паттерны теплого дерева и холодного камня, нанесённые на крупноформатный керамгранит. «Местом встреч» выступает яркий, красного цвета кухонный остров. Красный цвет выбран не случайно! Василий Кандинский описывал красный как цвет, который производит впечатление почти необъятной мощи. Таким образом мы хотели подчеркнуть характер владельцев квартиры - успешных и сильных духом людей. Остров – главная точка притяжения этого пространства, соседствует с большим диваном из матового приятного на ощупь велюра, изготовленного по нашим эскизам. Обязательным условием было наличие камина в гостиной. Мы выбрали камин на биотопливе, который встроен в инсталляцию, отделанную фактурным кермогранитом и перетекающею в ТВ-зону, декорированную уже гладким керамогранитом. Световые сценарии продуманы, исходя из назначения каждой зоны. Мы предусмотрели разные типы осветительных приборов: технический потолочный свет, направленные светильники, мягкие подсветки в виде бра, торшеров и настольных светильников, создающих обволакивающую атмосферу и интересные световые акценты».
Фрагмент гостиной. «Мы не привыкли сильно ориентироваться на моду, ведь она быстро меняется, а хороший интерьер должен быть актуален долгие годы, без этого весь его смысл исчезает, - замечает Елена, - Поэтому работаем на нюансах, на правильном построении колористического решения, светового сценария, очень любим использовать тактильные контрасты. Все это (даже по результатам научных исследований) помогает комфортно находиться в интерьере долгое время и получать от этого удовольствие». Вазы ручной работы. На стене – часы Menu Norm
Центральный элемент интерьера — это, конечно же, большой кухонный остров красного оттенка, с консольным вылетом столешницы – центр притяжения и самое «тусовочное» место квартиры, где можно встречаться с родными после рабочего дня, проводить кулинарные поединки, устраивать шумные вечеринки или просто завтракать каждое утро. Коридор дизайнеры оформили как миниатюрную картинную галерею, ведь особое место в интерьере всей квартиры занимает искусство! «Для владельцев - это совершенно новый опыт, и они с большим удовольствием позволили нам наполнить пространство картинами, - отмечает Елена Алдошина, - Кроме того, мы предусмотрели дополнительные места для новых полотен, расположив в местах стыка потолка и стен специальные крепления для подвесов картин. Это избавит в будущем от сверления поверхностей, картины можно будет передвигать без ущерба для стен. Все картины, находящиеся в интерьере — работы Сергея Яшина».

Особого внимания в спальне заслуживает тумба-изголовье кровати в виде инсталляции из цветного глубоко-синего стекла, за которой находится хорошо освещённая рабочая зона с письменным столом. «Прозрачный лист стекла установлен в тумбу-изголовье, отделанной декоративной штукатуркой, - объясняет Ярослав, - Внутрь изголовья мы заложили электрические выводы для подключения прикроватных светильников, чтобы все провода были спрятаны и не портили общую картину. Таким образом изголовье кровати и его стеклянная инсталляция стали самыми технически сложными элементами этого пространства». Синее кресло, Sits Mokka. Рабочее кресло, Zuiver Nikki. Ванная комната. В качестве особого декоративного и конструктивного приёма выступает перегородка из smart-стекла. Таким образом, при желании можно «впустить» интерьер гостиной в ванную комнату и наоборот. По словам дизайнеров, все гости приходят в восторг при ее виде. Душевая перегородка выполнена из цветного стекла синего оттенка и в сочетании с плиткой в душевой с эффектом «кривого зеркала» образует броскую световую, цветовую и рельефную композицию.
