We chose cabinetry made from reclaimed barnwood from Country Roads Associates (in Holmes, NY) as well as a copper farmhouse sink to get the farmhouse feel. Adding the brick wall and reclaimed 2" thick barnwood beam shelving further enhanced the rustic nature of the design. The Caspian blue glass tile by Akdo Tile, stainless steel appliances (Viking, Bosch, Liebherrr, Thermador) and thin Dekton (by Cosentino) counter tops lend the contemporary touch. Hafele hardware and interior cabinet lighting also adds a contemporary touch along with the Blum Aventos lift-systems (automatic cabinet doors). Photo by Chris Sanders

BridgewaterBridgewater
After Originally this kitchen was open and inviting (see before pix). An earlier renovation added walls and created nooks but made the space very chopped up. It had a separate pantry, a breakfast nook, and a kitchen area with all the amenities crammed into a 10-by-10- foot space. Bridgewater did everything possible to make the existing footprint of the kitchen seem bigger and improve traffic flow, while respecting the original Tudor design and materials. The remodeling design moved plumbing, removed part of a wall to create a pass-through to the main hallway, added an island, and enlarged an archway. The remodeler tapped into his creativity to duplicate the look and feel of existing products and finishes that would have been used in the late 1920s.

Clean, cool and calm are the three Cs that characterise a Scandi-style kitchen. The use of light wood and design that is uncluttered is what Scandinavians look for. Sleek and streamlined surfaces and efficient storage can be found in the Schmidt catalogue. The enhancement of light by using a Scandi style and colour. The Scandinavian style is inspired by the cool colours of landscapes, pale and natural colours, and adds texture to make the kitchen more sophisticated. This kitchen’s palette ranges from white, green and light wood to add texture, all bringing memories of a lovely and soft landscape. The light wood resembles the humble beauty of the 30s Scandinavian modernism. To maximise the storage, the kitchen has three tall larders with internal drawers for better organising and unclutter the kitchen. The floor-to-ceiling cabinets creates a sleek, uncluttered look, with clean and contemporary handle-free light wood cabinetry. To finalise the kitchen, the black appliances are then matched with the black stools for the island.
