The existing kitchen had ceiling mounted spotlights and the client was keen for the new kitchen to be well lit. We used LED striplights which were discreet but ceiling mounted across some of the beams and under the cabinets to create a good wash of light over the whole space.

The clients brief for this large 1930s house was to demolish several internal walls to covert a narrow ‘L’ shaped kitchen into a large open family space. Key client desires included a nook capable of seating the whole family and a functional ‘industrial’ style.
Through a series of computer model presentations, we moved away from a conversion of the existing space developing instead an extension. The resultant large space was separated into a functional kitchen zone and a large nook area housed within a frameless glass bay window.
High quality rich natural materials such as handmade brick and hardwoods were enhanced with hidden natural lighting from above to create a rich, textured and layered look. Inspiration for this brightly lit complex space was drawn from the idea of the ‘Manhattan Loft’.

Custom designed wenge wood cabinetry, a mosaic glass backsplash with a second glass style above the cabinetry, both underlit and uplit to enhance the appearance, made the most of this small kitchen. Green Typhoon granite provided a beautiful and unique counter work surface .

Completed on a small budget, this hard working kitchen refused to compromise on style. The upper and lower perimeter cabinets, sink and countertops are all from IKEA. The vintage schoolhouse pendant lights over the island were an eBay score, and the pendant over the sink is from Restoration Hardware. The BAKERY letters were made custom, and the vintage metal bar stools were an antique store find, as were many of the accessories used in this space. Oh, and in case you were wondering, that refrigerator was a DIY project compiled of nothing more than a circa 1970 fridge, beadboard, moulding, and some fencing hardware found at a local hardware store.
We are quite fond of the finished result of this chic white kitchen! Terrific combo of material selections and utilization of space. Tell us what you think!

This Coronado Condo went from dated to updated by replacing the tile flooring with newly updated ash grey wood floors, glossy white kitchen cabinets, MSI ash gray quartz countertops, coordinating built-ins, 4x12" white glass subway tiles, under cabinet lighting and outlets, automated solar screen roller shades and stylish modern furnishings and light fixtures from Restoration Hardware.
What a huge transformation from what was once a closed in, outdated original to a stunning modern kitchen with clean lines. New white washed oak floors replaced worn out linoleum. Ikea cabinets gave this kitchen a clean modern look with lots of innovative storage solutions. LED lighting supplies illumination inside the drawers, over the countertops, behind the glass doors and overhead. Quartzite countertops and stainless steel appliances finish off the look.
