While respecting the history and architecture of the house, we created an updated version of the home’s original personality with contemporary finishes that still feel appropriate, while also incorporating some of the original furniture passed down in the family. Two decades and two teenage sons later, the family needed their home to be more user friendly and to better suit how they live now. We used a lot of unique and upscale finishes that would contrast each other and add panache to the space.

The family living in this shingled roofed home on the Peninsula loves color and pattern. At the heart of the two-story house, we created a library with high gloss lapis blue walls. The tête-à-tête provides an inviting place for the couple to read while their children play games at the antique card table. As a counterpoint, the open planned family, dining room, and kitchen have white walls. We selected a deep aubergine for the kitchen cabinetry. In the tranquil master suite, we layered celadon and sky blue while the daughters' room features pink, purple, and citrine.
Beloved
This room was designed for a 14 year old boy - he has a twin sister. They both love the color blue and it was my challenge to add complementing colors that they would like! Lime green seemed to do the trick here and I found this amazing embroidered coverlet from Missoni Home that brought everything together. The back wall is a 3D textured surface which we painted soft grey. We found these fun figurines at Kid Robot in SoHo. Custom aluminum shelving and glossy anthracite lacquer drawer unit with electric blue LED light - game on!

Köllen Design
Köllen Bookshelf is a modular shelf design that allows the user to interact with it. This differentiates it from other classic pieces of furniture.
Köllen Bookshelf is a shelf created from the repetition of adaptable pieces in matter of size and shape of the objects on it. Its autonomous structure allows an independent working of each of the strips, so that they can be placed in different positions according to the user’s need. This structure will also allow for it to be a considerably decorative element: it follows a clean structure broken by a curved edge that represents the mountains, in a nod to the piece’s originary region.

Now client's daughter’s room, this room had been functioning as a second guest bedroom and was ready for a makeover, starting with the wall covering. We were able to keep the existing drapes, and repurpose the giant mirror by painting the frame; thus creating a savings in the budget and enabling the client to choose to indulge in a new high-quality chair, a gorgeous, unique, high-end fabric for the ottoman, by Katie Ridder — and the biggest investment, the custom-designed and hand-built bunk bed by Randall Wilson and Sons.
The rose-colored hand-knotted oriental rug, sourced via PAK is another high-quality piece that had originally been purchased for the daughter’s nursery and transitioned easily to her new room.
A lot of love and time went into designing that custom bed. Especially the detailed railing, the drawer handles, incorporating the bookshelf into the headboard, and the choosing the contrasting wood for the ladder.
The bed will hold its own long into teenage-hood — because sleepovers.
