The exterior draws from mid-century elements of , floor to ceiling windows, geometric and low roof forms and elements of materials to reflect the uses behind. concrete blocks turned on their edge create a veil of privacy from the street while maintaining visual connection to the native garden to the front. Timber is used between the concrete walls in combination with timber framed windows.

Located in the quaint neighborhood of Park Slope, Brooklyn this row house needed some serious love. Good thing the team was more than ready dish out their fair share of design hugs. Stripped back to the original framing both inside and out, the house was transformed into a shabby-chic, hipster dream abode. Complete with quintessential exposed brick, farm house style large plank flooring throughout and a fantastic reclaimed entry door this little gem turned out quite cozy.

The Shoshone residence is envisioned as a monumental limestone volume that will house an eclectic collection of art and sculpture. The project examines unique lighting conditions throughout the day by utilizing a series of curved light scoops to direct and filter the illumination. These light scoops vary in size and shape in order to materialize a distinct set of experiences throughout the residence. The project rises three stories connecting the ground level neighboring community gardens to the city-wide panorama from the roof deck above. The vertical circulation linking these moments is contained within the largest light scoop monitor.

With so much attention devoted to interior design, the exterior of a home can often get overlooked, but as the first thing that welcomes both us and our guests, it is worth devoting some time tending to the outside of your house. If you are building in a street with predominantly Victorian facades, with bay windows and side returns, you might need to ensure your house designs fit in with the rest of the homes on the street, but if you’re building in a more remote area you’ll probably have more freedom for your building design.
