New Malden Kitchen
New Malden Kitchen

A modern minimalist kitchen in New Malden. The two tone handleless kitchen furniture from German manufacturer Leicht, is off set perfectly with a back painted glass splashback. The Kubus sink and Quooker tap are set below the large kitchen window that floods the room with light. Appliances from Siemens maintain the very modern finish along with Philips Hue lighting. Both the island and worktops are finished with engineered stone from Caesarstone.

A white kitchen, colour blocked though, by a dark contrasting island with ribbed sink and a run of tall cupboards drenched in blue. Nothing dull here. Copper accents add form and weight, a tonal extractor fan and archway into the tiny (but mighty) utility room perform their architectural duties. Traditional marble worktops add a final authoritative point.

A large picture window at one end brings in more light and takes advantage of the beautiful view of the river and the barn’s natural surroundings. The design incorporates sophisticated cabinetry with plenty of storage for crockery, larder items, fresh ingredients, and ample storage for their children's toys. For it to be a multi-functional space, Jaye’s layout includes a dedicated area to facilitate food preparation, coffee and tea making, cooking, dining, family gatherings, entertaining and moments of relaxation. Within the centre of the room, a large island allows the clients to have easy movement and access to all the sustainably conscious integrated appliances the client wanted when cooking on one side and comfortable seating on the opposite side. A venting Hob is located on the Island due to the high vaulted ceiling and more importantly, our client could keep an eye on the children while cooking and preparing family meals. The large island also includes seating for the family to gather around for casual dining or a coffee, and the client added a fabulous peachy pink sofa at the end for lounging or reading with the children, or quite simply sitting and taking in the beautiful view

SWA completely stripped back and reconfigured the rear of this 1930s property. The focus was to create an industrial inspired design, bringing together an open plan living and dining area. The main focus was maximising light and a feeling of space. This was achieved by installing bespoke glass roof lights and crittal style doors, which created perfect views to the attractive garden. The original brick exterior wall was replicated with modern brick slips which has become a feature wall in a perfect yet modern internal space.

We chose a flat, matt laminate door in a pale grey with matching grey cabinets. The tall larders surround the American Style fridge freezer, housing all food storage at one end of the kitchen. The main worksurfaces with the large sink, Quooker Flex boiling tap, dishwasher and pull out bins, provide ample space for food preparation and the open shelf above keeps all essential accessories easily accessible. Tall cabinets at the end, housing the single ovens and multipurpose storage, balance the overall look in the room without being overpowering so near the dining area. The island is that central hub with bar stool seating, allowing for comfortable conversation while the meal is being prepared or a quick snack. Plenty of deep drawer storage below for all pots, pans and cutlery keep them in that central zone. The beautiful, veined quartz worksurfaces, including book matched end panels on the island, bring that touch of luxury and detail which compliments the grey green paint used on the accent wall. The kitchen diner of our Fulham Family Home was painted in Paint & Paper Library Capuchin which felt light & elegant, and we added contrast & texture with a granite worktop, pale green & inky blue Shaker kitchen & an oak herringbone parquet floor. A semi sheer curtain helped to prevent glare and added privacy, while the jute rug, upholstered dining chairs & bronze hardware added warmth.

Homeowners aimed to bring the lovely outdoors into better view when they removed the two 90's dated columns that divided the kitchen from the family room and eat-in area. They also transformed the range wall when they added two wood encasement windows which frame the custom zinc hood and allow a soft light to penetrate the kitchen. Custom beaded inset cabinetry was designed with a busy family of 5 in mind. A coffee station hides behind the appliance garage, the paper towel holder is partially concealed in a rolling drawer and three custom pullout drawers with soft close hinges hold many items that would otherwise be located on the countertop or under the sink. A 48" Viking gas range took the place of a 30" electric cooktop and a Bosch microwave drawer is now located in the island to make space for the newly added beverage cooler. Due to size and budget constaints, we kept the basic footprint so every space was carefully planned for function and design. The family stayed true to their casual lifestyle with the black honed countertops but added a little bling with the rustic crystal chandelier, crystal prism arched sconces and calcutta gold herringbone backsplash. But the owner's favorite add was the custom island designed as an antique furniture piece with the essenza blue quartzite countertop cut with a demi-bull stepout. The kids can now sit at the ample sized counter and enjoy breakfast or finish homework in the comfortable cherry red swivel chairs which add a pop to the otherwise understated tones. This newly remodeled kitchen checked all the homeowner's desires.

Residing in Philadelphia, it only seemed natural for a blue and white color scheme. The combination of Satin White and Colonial Blue creates instant drama in this refaced kitchen.   Download our free ebook, Creating the Ideal Kitchen. DOWNLOAD NOW   The homeowners came to us looking to update the kitchen in their historic 1897 home. The home had gone through an extensive renovation several years earlier that added a master bedroom suite and updates to the front façade. The kitchen however was not part of that update and a prior 1990’s update had left much to be desired. The client is an avid cook, and it was just not very functional for the family. The original kitchen was very choppy and included a large eat in area that took up more than its fair share of the space. On the wish list was a place where the family could comfortably congregate, that was easy and to cook in, that feels lived in and in check with the rest of the home’s décor. They also wanted a space that was not cluttered and dark – a happy, light and airy room. A small powder room off the space also needed some attention so we set out to include that in the remodel as well. See that arch in the neighboring dining room? The homeowner really wanted to make the opening to the dining room an arch to match, so we incorporated that into the design. Another unfortunate eyesore was the state of the ceiling and soffits. Turns out it was just a series of shortcuts from the prior renovation, and we were surprised and delighted that we were easily able to flatten out almost the entire ceiling with a couple of little reworks. Other changes we made were to add new windows that were appropriate to the new design, which included moving the sink window over slightly to give the work zone more breathing room. We also adjusted the height of the windows in what was previously the eat-in area that were too low for a countertop to work. We tried to keep an old island in the plan since it was a well-loved vintage find, but the tradeoff for the function of the new island was not worth it in the end. We hope the old found a new home, perhaps as a potting table.
