The large greenhouse at THE PIG on the Beach is at the very heart of an idyllic kitchen garden. We worked closely with the team THE PIG on the beach to ensure the greenhouse was located in a natural setting within the garden. Attached to the wall at each gable end, the greenhouse is an integral feature of the garden. The greenhouse is used by the Kitchen Garden team in producing crops for their home-grown menu, as well as a spot for guests to look around during their stay.

We had to prioritise both the amount of space that would be left in the garden, and a comfortable sized home that our client would be content with.

At 8.15 meters by 4.65 meters, this is a pretty big garden room! It is also a very striking one. It was designed and built by Swift Garden Rooms in close collaboration with their clients. Designed to be a home office, the customers' brief was that the building could also be used as an occasional guest bedroom. Swift Garden Rooms have a Project Planner where you specify the features you would like your garden room to have. When completing the Project Planner, Swift's client said that they wanted to create a garden room with lots of glazing. The Swift team made this happen with a large set of powder-coated aluminum sliding doors on the front wall and a smaller set of sliding doors on the sidewall. These have been positioned to create a corner of glazing. Beside the sliding doors on the front wall, a clever triangular window has been positioned. The way this butts into the Cedar cladding is clever. To us, it looks like the Cedar cladding has been folded back to reveal the window! The sliding doors lead out onto a custom-designed, grey composite deck area. This helps connect the garden room with the garden it sits in.

Our garden sheds and outdoor buildings don’t have to be dumping grounds for tools, bikes, bins and all the extraneous items that haven’t found a home inside the house, instead they can be whole new spaces that you can turn your design eye to, just like any other room of the house. If you’ve lived in a small house or flat with no outside space, you’ll appreciate the added bonus an additional structure can give you. Which garden building should I go for?

With luxuries such as wireless internet and underfloor heating, and endless paint and decor options, the possibilities for your garden building are boundless. For the environmentally-conscious, eco-sheds featuring solar panels are an energy-saving solution that could benefit your household, and garden pods – prefabricated pod buildings for use as an office or extra living space – are easy, ready-to-go garden structures that are usually eco-friendly and energy efficient. For eco-lovers and those that want to retain a lush garden look, grass covered walls and roofs will help your garden room to blend in with its surroundings or wooden cladding will also give a natural look if you don’t want to to go all out with the grass. When it comes to your interior design, a habitable, high-spec garden room is really no different from any room in your main house, so the decisions will come down to personal style, taste and needs.
