The 2018 redesign of this street-side slope was necessary as a result of the removal of a large shade tree in the median. This gave us the opportunity to introduce additional specimen trees, which the owner loves and requested. The area will be knitted together by the planting of over 200 'Firewitch' dianthus that will grow together and become a fragrant and colorful evergreen "carpet", out of which the specimen trees will rise. Gravel from an old driveway was repurposed to create a garden path in the side yard. Hornbeam trees create privacy between the closely spaced homes.

Hot Lips Salvia blooms look more like those of snapdragons than the notable wands of its sister salvias. It gets its name from the white and red tips of it's blooms that look like "Hot Lips". In spring, its fiesta red blooms seem to fill the garden.
In winter, Hot Lips' foliage also brings something distinctive to the garden. Its woodier stalks and delicate, deep green leaves create a dramatic backdrop for the silvery foliage of Salvia Clevelandii and cassia.
