In this remarkable architecturally designed home, the owners were craving a drastic change from the neutral decor they had been living with for 15 years. The goal was to infuse a lot of intense color while incorporating, and eloquently displaying, a fabulous art collection acquired on their many travels.

Tribal-inspired space that plays double duty as a den + guest retreat. Custom floral dhurrie floor covering and vintage turkish embroidered pillow (both sourced in flea markets) were initial room inspirations. Soft blue walls are energized by custom roman shades in punchy green and brown graphic. Pair of daybeds covered in chocolate velvet and trimmed in acid green greek key trim serve as occasional guest beds. Beaded chandelier wrapped in hemp, custom floral accent chair, and rattan foot stools topped in sherpa complete the space. Design by Courtney B. Smith. Photography by David Duncan Livingston.

In the media room, which also functions as an extra bedroom, the designer created an island-style escape from the New York winter. Arsenic 214 from Farrow & Ball creates a Caribbean oasis in the den. It's a bright color, yet the room feels very soothing and peaceful, like an escape should be. Roman shade in fabric from the Christopher Maya collection by Holland & Sherry. The Clifton lounge by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams is covered in brown linen and mohair. A beach photo by Christophe Tedjasukmana completes the Caribbean escape theme. Photographer: Christian Harder

A rich, stormy-blue wall color makes this family room feel cozy and comfortable. Vertical shiplap brings visual interest to the built-ins and the custom-sectional creates a relaxing spot to curl up and watch a movie.

An open concept room, this family room has all it needs to create a cozy inviting space. The mismatched sofas were a purposeful addition adding some depth and warmth to the space. The clients were new to this area, but wanted to use as much of their own items as possible. The yellow alpaca blanket purchased when traveling to Peru was the start of the scheme and pairing it with their existing navy blue sofa. The only additions were the cream sofa the round table and tying it all together with some custom pillows.
