Contemporary Japanese Garden Morningside
The owners brief for this small courtyard property was to create a modern japanese styled garden with boardwalks, tiles and a stone wall.
James McLean from JD Landscape Architecture produced the designs to meet the clients brief and through the design/build process we looked at different materials and styles to fit with our clients budget and taste.
The site had poor soil and drainage issues, with the stairs becoming a waterfall during heavy rain so there was a lot of work at the front end working on drainage solutions and amending the soil so we could establish the garden.
The finished elements include a hardwood garapa deck and boardwalks, outdoor porcelain tiles and a paradise quarry shist stone wall.
The planting consists two large feature trees (a flowering cherry and japanese maple), along with rhododendron, gardenia, scleranthus, azalea and others to complement the japanese style theme.
To complete the project we refreshed the upper vege garden area with a new pebble path, macrocarpa raised vege beds and limestone paths.
