Our client contracted us to design and build a functional and interesting water front project that had to be family friendly!! They wanted a cozy fire pit area that also contained a 3 piece natural rock bubbler. They also wanted a spa area with lounger space for sunbathing as well as a beach area for sandcastles and beach toy storage. No expense was spared with a custom pergola, natural rock retaining and steps as well as landscape lighting and well placed trees and shrubs. Concrete edge and aggregate beds make for a low maintenance dream yard!!

A trio of king palms line the driveway providing shade to the house and driveway during the hottest times of the year casting dazzling dancing shadows that move throughout the day that mimic the laser cut panels lining the driveway.

Design and installed by Chris Kolb of Ark Gardens. This photograph was taken by Chris Kolb. This rustic coastal Chatham property has an heirloom climbing rose on a trellis system over the garage. Ark Gardens installed rot resistant red cedar shingles and spacers were used under the trellis to resist moisture and allow flow of water and air under the giant climbing rose. Hydrangeas were transplanted from elsewhere on the estate to create an allee that draws the eye to the ocean view. Shasta Daisies bloom at the foot of the rose. Chris decided to punctuate the hedge of Hydrangea with the native white blooming Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' and limb up and prune the native cedars.

Roland Oehme Landscape Architecture
This is an urban single family home situated on a narrow lot that is about 1/8 of an acre and is only 2 blocks from the Pacific Ocean. I designed a completely new garden and installed everything along with the client’s help. The garden I designed consisted of an ornamental grass garden, a xeriscape garden with decomposed granite mounds, fruit trees and shrubs located throughout, a jungle forest garden, and raised brick vegetable beds in the rear. Previously, there was a wood deck covering almost the entire property that was removed by the owner. We installed root guard around all of the walkways. I installed the raised brick vegetable beds and walkways around the vegetable beds. Many of the plants were chosen to provide food and habitat for pollinators as well. Dozens of fruiting plants were located in the garden. So, it is called the “Garden of Eatin”.

Kumaran Design
On occasion we get to design and fabricate a piece of architectural woodworking.
Here is a gate, especially designed by Hara Kumaran, to quietly announce a secret garden. Materials are home grown redwood and copper.
