This house extension attaches to the original stone cottage, spread over two floors. The new extension is wrapped in vertical black timber cladding to differentiate from the original cottage. Top down living is provided to maximise the views out to sea from the central living spaces.

Mulberry Kitchen Studios
Robert from Mulberry Kitchens came to see us and we chatted for around an hour with Robert asking many questions concerning what I would like to have and how I worked in the kitchen. When the plans were drawn up I was delighted he had included a breakfast bar, an island and lots of large drawers, he had also made a big pantry cupboard which was great. He advised and supplied the white goods and the whole experience with Mulberry Kitchens was excellent, I certainly would have no hesitation in recommending them.

You don’t have to have a home by the sea to embrace coastal style, you only need to love the laid back, bright and breezy feel of coastal homes and beach houses. Coastal interiors usually revolve around two colours – white and blue. But the blue doesn’t have to be bright sailor blue, but instead can be calming, grey-blue; deep sea dark blue; light pebble blue or peaceful sky blue. And you can throw other colours in there, too – yellows, greens, greys and beige – anything natural that could be found on the beach or coast.

Rough wooden elements can also play a part in coastal style homes, as can the obvious features of boats, naval themes, seashells, coral, lighthouses, deck chairs and fish. If you don’t want to be too obvious with your coastal interiors then stick with whitewashed floors or walls, some rough wooden furniture and a few splashes of blue, perhaps in a striped throw, cushion or rug. For coastal bedroom ideas, crisp white bed linen with a bit of blue pattern added in, and simple artwork that incorporates beach themes or a bit of driftwood will do the job nicely. A round mirror that looks like a porthole would also fit in well.

Whether you’re going for luxury LA beach house or cute Cornwall cottage, there are all sorts of ways to weave in a bit of coastal style into your home. Take a look at the coastal homes or beach-inspired interiors on Houzz to give you inspiration for your own coastal renovation.
